This invention relates to a sound amplifying device, the general object of the invention being to provide a device which can be manufactured at low cost, one which will occupy but little space and which will amplify sound to the maximum extent in a clear manner.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

In these views, 1 indicates a casing which has its front open and which is composed of the front portion A, the rear portion B and the intermediate portion C. The rear portion B is of small width and has its sides flaring slightly. The intermediate portion has its sides flaring to a great degree, while the sides of the portion A flare outwardly to a less degree than'that of the intermediate portion but to agreater degree than that of the rear portion. Thus I have produced a casing which has a small restricted sound emitting part at its rear with the rest of the casing forming a flaring mouth which gradually increases in width, as clearly shown in Figure 2. A partition 2 is horizontally arranged in the portions A and C and an upwardly tapering tube. 3 is arranged in the portion A with its lower end passing through a hole in the partition and its upper end through the top of the casing. A channel shaped member 4: is fastened to the bottom part of the partition and to the rear part of the casing, this member forminga passage for receiving the sound waves from the tube 3 andconducting them into the section B of the casing and from which the sound waves will pass through the mouth forming sections A and C of the casing. A casing 5 of wood or the like is placed around the metal tube 3 to prevent vibration of the same and horizontally arranged reflectors 6 are fastened to the rear of the casing 5.
The top of the section A of the casing slopes i ghtly toward the rear, while the top of the section. C has a much greater pitch and the top of the section B has a slightly greater pitch than the top of the intermediate section, as clearly shown in Figure 1.
The chamber formed at the bottom of the casing and by the partition 2 may be closed by a cover plate 7 which is provided with the holes 8 therein which are covered by the gauze 9. The bottom of the casing is provided with the feet 10.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when a reproducer or the like is placed in the projecting end of the tube 3, the sound waves therefrom will pass through the tube 3 into the channel 4 from which they will pass into the small section B of the casing and then the waves will pass through the mouth forming sections A and C from the front of the casing. The deflectors 6 will prevent the waves from passing to the top of the casing and the wooden casing 5 will prevent vibration of the metal tube 3.
The wooden casing 5 not only acts as a shield for the tube 3, but it also acts as a deflector for deflecting the sound waves from the casing Panel 7, with the holes 8 therein, acts to relieve the amplifier from all booming sound and adds greater depth to the tone.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim is:
l. A device of the class described comprising a casing having a rear section of little width with a flaring front section, the front of which is open, conducting means for conducting the sound waves from the top of the easing into the rear section and horizontally arranged deflector plates in the flaring front section.
2; A device of the class described comprising a casing having a rear section of little width and outwardly flaring intermediate and front sections, the front section being open, a horizontal partition in the front and intermediate sections, a tube passing through the top of the casing and through the partition, a channel member fastened to the under face of the partition for conducting sound waves from the tube to the rear section and horizontally arranged deflector plates supported adjacent the tube.
3. A device of the class described comprising a casing having a rear section of little Width and outwardly flaring intermediate and front sections, the front section being open a horizontal partition in the front and intermediate sections, a tube passing through 10 the top of the casing and through the partitiou, a channel member fastened to the under face of the partition for conducting sound Waves from the tube to the rear section, a
