' Application filed March 24:, 1928. Serial'lto. 284,475.
This invention relates to improvements in season greeting frar'nes particularly adapted for'use in connection with containers for candie and the like.
The object of this invention is to provide a box, container or package constructed in such a manner that itinay readily receive in operative relationship therewith a suit ably formed frame adapted as a seasonal greeting.
A further object of' this invention is to provide a frame for combination with a package orcontainefahd constructed in such a manner that the has of the container upon which the frame restswill not be entirely covered, thereby llowing a sub stantial portion of thetop of the container to be clearly visible-through the opening in the frame.
Another object of this invention is to provide a detachable frame for a container, the periphery of which isadapted to conform with the border structure of the container in such a manner that the frame may be considered an integral part-of the con tainer, the frame being detachably connected to the container in such a manner that it may be readily removed therefrom Without entirely removing the binding means around the container.
Other ects of this invention will appear the container, disclosing the frame in assembled relationship therewith, the con-v tainer and frame being surrounded by a suitable binding element.
Figure 3 represents a sectional View of Figure 2, taken along line Figure 4 illustrates a perspective view of a container disclosing a particular form of this invention wherein the periphery of the container is adapted to receive in assembled relationship therewith a frame having cooperating, downwardly extending tab portions, the frame when in position conforming to the border structure of the container.
, igure 5 illustrates a sectional view of Figure 4, with the frame inassembled relw tionship therewith. I a
V Figure 6 illur tee a perspective view of a modified form or a frame, according to this invention, disclosing peripheral means for "bringing the frameinto interlock relation: ship with the container.
This invention provides a frame adapted for detachably, connecting with a suitably formed container such as a 'box' or package, whereinnumeral l designates themainbody portion of a box adapted primarily for holding candy and the like, and having a top portion 2 provided with a border struct 3e23, which may be of any desirable type suchas raised sections integrally formed over the box top 2, or any other desired con struction.
In order to retain the original identity of the box top border structure, and at the same time provide the box top with a do tachable frame, it is, preferredin this invention to construct a frame 4, having its outer periphery 5 to conform in shape and size to the periphery of the container top, portion 2, the inner periphery 6, of the frame a, being formed to suitably coincide with the border portion 3, of the container top portion 2, which will allow, a substan-r tial portion of the container top to be visible through the opening in the frame. The container and frame may be held together in detached r lationship by any suitable means, such as binding member 7.
Figure 4: represents one form of his invention wherein the detachable frame portion 8 is provided with a plurality of downwardly extending tab elements 9, adapted to cooperate with notched portions 10, in the periphery of the top portion 11 of the container '12; it being understood that the inner periphery 13 of the frame 8 will coincide with the border structure ll of the contalner 12, when the two members are brought into interlock and assembled rela-' tionship.
Figure 6 represents a further modified form of this invention wherein the numeral 10 designates a detachable frame for use in connection with any suitable container, wherein the outer periphery of the frame 16 is provided with a downwardly extending flange portion 15, and theinner periphery 17 of the frame 16 is adapted to coincide with the border structure of any container with which the frame 16 is brought into assembled relationship.
This invention provides a detachable frame particularly adapted for use in connection with packages or boxes of candy. The center of the frame is formed with an opening adapted to coincide with the strncture of the top of the cooperating package over which the frame is adapted to be placed, in such a manner that the original top or sides of the package may maintain their original identity.
The frame according to this invention is, furthermore, constructed in such a manner that-when brought into interlock or assem- 25 boxes, handkerchief boxes, silk stocking boxes, that is the usage of the frame may extend to all kinds of containers and particularly those which might be called gift merchandise boxes.
It is to be understood that alterations and substitutions may be made in the above disclosure both in the specifications and drawings within the scope of the appended claim without affecting the merits of this invention.
lVhat I claim is:
' lhe combination with a package consisting of a box filled with gift articles, having an outer top adapted to be placed over the usual box cover and displaying information relative to some special occasion, said outer top having a section removed whereby the ordinary top will be exposed displaying suitable information to indicate the nature of the gift articles, whereby the package may be sold as a gift package with reference to special occasions with said auxiliary top in place, or as a standard staple package when the auxiliary top is removed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
