BLANKET HOLDER FOR HOODS OF AUTOMOBILES.

Application filed September M 1 invention relates to blanket holders for boots of automobiles. An object is to provide a device for securely holding covers such as blankets upon the hoods and radiators of automobiles in order to prevent undue chilling of the radiator and engine in cold weather particularly when the engine is not running. I am aware of the fact that it has been proposed to provide blanket holders for such purpose but so far as I am aware, all of such devices embody metallic elements which injure the finish of the hood in case it is desired to leave the holder in place on the hood without the blanket. A particular object therefore of my, invention is to provide a device of this character which is so constructed that the blanket may be removed when the automobile is being driven and the device left in place on the hood without liability of injury to the finish thereof.

The full ob ects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features of my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention,--

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the hood portion of an automobile showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder; Fig. 3 is a view of the holder in longitudinal section. Fig. 4 is a view in cross section on the line 44 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings and first to Fig. 1, the letter A designates the radiator of an automobile and the letter B designates the hood, it being understood that both of these are commonly covered in cold weather by a robe or blanket designated by. the letter The customary hook fasteners for thehood are designated by the letter D. In carrying out my invention, I provide a fairly heavy strap 10 of leather or other flexible material which will be referred to as a centralstrap.

At one end portion of this strap, a lighter and narrower strap 12 is sewed by stitches indicated at 14. The strap 12 at its inner end carries an attaching device 16 and at its outer end carries an attaching device 18. One end of a coiled spring 20 is attached to the device 16 while the other end of the spring 20 is attached to an attaching device 22 carried by the inner end of a strap 24 which is similar to the strap 12 but is not secured to the central 8, 1927. strap. The strap 24 may therefore slide and it is held in proper position for such movement by passing loosely through a loop 26 secured to the central strap. The spring 20 passes loosely through a loop 28 secured to y the strap 10 and it will be observed that this spring is disposed on the outer surface of the central strap. 16, 18, 22, and 30 are shown as rings since in most instances rings are considered more convenient than other forms of vents the straps from sliding and marring the finish of the hood. WVhen it is desired to protect the engine and the radiator,one of the attaching devices is disengaged from the fastener D and the blanket is placed smoothly in position as shown in Fig. 1. The holder is then placed over the blanket and its ends engaged with the fasteners D., This will prevent the blanket from being disarranged or completely blown off by the wind. It will be understood as a matter of course that two of the blanket holders may be employed if desired. The spring 20 adapts the holder to different sizes of hoods although if desired, the holders may be made of different lengths for different sizes of hoods.

I claim: I

1. A blanket holder for. hoods of automobiles comprising a central flexible strap, a second flexible narrow strap sewed to one end of said central strap, rings attached to both ends of said second strap, a coiled spring disposed on the outer surface of-sa-idcentral strap and attached at one end to the inner one of said rings, a third flexible narrow strap, and rings attached to both ends of said third strap, the other end of said spring being attached to the inner one of said last'mentioned rings.
