This invention relates to pedestal chairs of the swiveling ty e, and particularly to chairs of the type w ich may be inclined or rocked backwardly against the tension of a a spring tending normally to hold the chair back and seat in an upright position. The invention relates more particularly to the rocking connection bet-ween the bolts, on which the said spring or springs act to resist the rearward rocking movements of such chair seats, and the abutment-s or cross plates through which said bolts extend and which are usually or pedestal. l i
It is the general purpose and ob ect of the invention to provide, in such nstallations, a rocking connecting unember which is simple in'construction, which can be produced economically and by a stamping operation; and which is stronger than the builtup connecting members which are in generaluse; l a
I accom lish the foregoing objects in and through t e connecting member set forth in detail hereinafter, reference being haduto the drawings, wherein Fig. 1 represents a sectional elevation of parts of achairnseat frame, showin gthe manner in which the said frame is supported from the post or pedestal 39 and the manner in which the aforesaid connecting member is used; Fig. 2 is a plan, with parts broken away, of the frame and arts shown in Fig. 1, showing my connecting member and the parts cooperating therewith; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation, Fig. 4 an end elevation, and Fig. 5 a bottom plan view of the aforesaid connecting member.

This bolt has securedv to its rear end a. cross plate 14 which receives therewithin the rear ends of. the springs 15,, the front ends of the portion thereof and is provided with l a, vertical extension having a recess 12 springs bearing against the rear web 9 of lugs 9 web-9.
The front end of the bolt 13 projects through the connecting member, referred to hereinbefore, being provided with a thread on such front end on which is threaded the hub 16 of a hand wheel 16, the hub bearing against the central portion of the said connecting member, which will now be describe The connecting member is made from sheet metal by a stamping operation by which it is provided wit-h a forwardly-projecting arched or dome-shaped central body 17 having an aperture 18 therethrough, the sides of the dome being projecting rearwardly from the said extended and pressed together to form retained in position by preferably and described herein is of decided advantage 1n that said member may be made cheaply,

A rocking connecting member for use with one or more springs arranged to resist the backward niovenicnt of swivel chairs and with a bolt having a cross plate engaging such spring or springs and extending forwardly and beyond across member carried by the seat assembly, the said connecting member being formed from a single piece of metal having-a forwardly projecting dome-shaped centralportion provided with an aperture therethrough, the portion of such dome surrounding the said aperture, constituting an arch-supported thrust surface for engagement by an adjustable member on the front of said bolt, said connecting member having integral extensions adapted to bear against said cross member.

A rocking connecting member for use with one or more springs arranged to resist the backward movement of swivel chairs and with a bolt having a cross plate engaging such sprin or sprlngs and extending forwardly and beyond a cross member carr ed by the seat assembly, the said connecting member being formed from a single piece oi. metal pressed to a shape to provide a central forwardly-projecting dome-sha )GCl portion having an aperture thercthrough for the reception of the said red, the portion oi? such dome surrounding the aperture instituting 'an arch supported thrust surface for engagement by an adjustable member on the front of said bolt, the said connecting member comprising also double-walled lateral extensions constituting arms provided at their ends with bearings adapted to engage said cross member.
A rocking connecting member for use with one or more springs arranged to resist the backward movement of swivel chairs and with a bolt having a cross plate engaging suchspring or springs and extending forwardly and beyond a cross member carried by the seat assembly, the said connecting member being formed from a single piece of metal having a central dome-shaped portion provided with side flanges, the dome- SlHIPECl'POlblOD having an oneningtherethrough for the passage of said rod and provided with an arch-supported thrust surface surrounding said aperture and adapted to take the thrust of the rod through the engagement therewith of a member adjustably mounted on the front thereof, the side flanges bein extended from such dome on both sidestiereof and pressed together to form legs, each leg terminating in a bearing adapted to engage said cross member.
