Description
Dec. 18, 192 v 1,696,077
I H. DEAN HOOK Filed Au 29, 1927 Inventor g Attorneys Patented Dec. 18, 1928.
HORACE DEAN, OI LAUBIEB, MANITOBA, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THOMAS LLOYD, OF LAURIER, MANITOBA, CANADA.
HOOK.
Application filed August 29, 1927, Serial No. 216,267, and in Canada December 1, 1926.
The present invention pertains to a novel hook designed for use as a fastening element for harness or in similar instances.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a hook of this character embodying a pair of ring sections normally forced together by a spring to form a closed ring. One of the ring sections is carried by a rod slidable within a casing of the device and the other ring section is carried by the casing, while the remaining end of the rod is provided with a buckle for connection to the harness or the like. The spring which holds the ring closed acts upon this rod.
In opening the ring, the section carried by the rod is pulled against the action of the spring and held in open position until the element to be engaged is connected thereto. This ring sectlon is now released whereupon the ring closes under the action of the spring.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device in locked position;
Figure 2 is an elevation of the device in open position;
Figure 3 is an elevation of the device at right angles to Figure 2;
Figure 4 is an elevation of the device in closed position, showing the parts separated; and
Figure 5 is a transverse section.
Reference to these views will now be made by use of like characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
The body of the hook consists of a split The interior of the sections 1 and 2 is formed with a shoulder 11 near the end carrying the ring. The intermediate portion of the rod 7 is rounded as at 12 and provided with a loose ring 13 adapted to engage the shoulder 11. The portion 12 is also surrounded by an expansion spring 14 having one end engaging the ring 13 and the other end bearing against the squared portion 15 of the rod 7. After the parts have been properly assembled, split ring sections 16 are placed over the sections 1 and 2 and are soldered at their ends as indicated by the numeral 17 in Figure 5 whereby the sections 1 and 2 are locked together.
As already stated the ring 13 bears against the shoulder 11, so that the expansion of the spring acts on the squared section 15 and holds the rod 12in its limit position in that direction whereby the ring section 9 is brought into engagement with the section 3. WVhen it is desired to open the ring, the section 9 is pulled against the action of the spring 14 and the buckle 10 slides in notches 18 cut in the sections 1 and 2. After the section 9 has been engaged with the member to be fastened, it is released whereby the expansive tendency of the spring closes the ring.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that various alterations in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as indicated by the appended claim.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A hook comprising a circular hollow casing split in two sections having a recess formed therein, a ring segment carried by one of said sections, a rod disposed inside the sections one end of which terminates into shoulder formed by the sections recess 10 urge the ring segment in a closed position, and means around the said sections for keeping same in a closely related position.
In witness where-of I have hereunto set my hand.
HORACE DEAN.
