This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rail joints and particularly to a oint of the scarf type wherein the meeting rail ends are of twin formation and are capable of assembly by movement in either longitudinal or lateral directions.
With the above and other objects in view,
that willbecome apparent as thenature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of-parts here nafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the rails 1 are supported upon cross ties 2, the meeting joined rail ends being of the scarf type with the overlapped portions'of the rail ends sup ported upon a cross tie and being secured together by bolts 3 extending through the overlapping web portions of the rail ends with the elimination ofv the usual 'fish plates and splice bars. ,c I c The meeting rail ends are of the scarf type and of twin construction, each rail end being longitudinally cut away upon one side there of on a vertical line midway the opposite sides of the'rail as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 5.
