UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
MAURICE J'. WRIGHT, OF BOISE, IDAHO.
, REGISTER nus'r oovnn.
Application filediune 22, 1923. Serial No. 647,073,
as the same are installed in accordance with,
standard installation practices, and which will strain all air emanating from the register.
A further object resides in so constructing the cover and the dust-collecting portion that the entire structure can be readily washed or otherwise cleaned when occasion demands.
A still further object is to provide for moist/suing the heated air passing from the register, where this is deemed desirable. -With the above and other objects in view, which will be apparent to those skilled in the art, this invention includes certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will now be set forth in connection with the drawings.
In the drawings: g
t Figure 1 is a broken sectional view through a hot-air register and pipe installation, showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the register I Fig. 3 is a perspective view'showing the supporting frame and the fabric retaining ring Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view 1l lustrating detailed construction.
In the showing in Fig. 1, the supporting rim 1, for the register 2, is installed through the floor 3 in the usual manner, the hot air pipe 4 being connected with the usual register box 5. The register-2 has a supporting frame and bearing portion 6 depending therefrom to carry the usual leaves or louvres 7,
and in all respects the register fitting and con-- neotions are a standard installation.
My improved dust cover can be applied for use either within the register; box 5 or over the register 2, and in the present instance, I
frame 8, made up of wire or other suitable materialbent to the desired shape and secured in any desired manner, which frame is of rectangular shape in plan, or is of any other shape to fit within the register box 5, or over the register 2. The essential feature in the shape and size of this skeleton frame is that it must completely cover all openings of the register 2, or must completely cover the open,
ing from the hot air pipe. The frame has a rimportion 9, anol upright portions 10, which carry supporting top bars 11, and a retaining ring 12 is made of substantially the same general shape as the rim 9 and of sufficient size to fit loosely down over the top bars and the uprights, to come against'the rim ring 9.
This supporting frame structure is adapted to be covered with a piece of burlap or other coarse and more or less open fabric 13, this fabric being brought down over the sides of the frame and being held in place at its edges by the retainingring 12, after. the manner shown in Fig. I
The dust cover, with the parts assembled, as
best shown in Fig. 2, is placed within the register box 5 after the manner illustrated in Fig. 1,'o'r can be fitted in place over the register 2. ln this mounting, the heated air must pass through the fabriccovering 13, and inconsequence the air will be strained and dust and smokeparticles will be removed. When the fabric covering 13 is soiled, it can be removed and washed or otherwise cleaned to be retaining ring 12 holds the fabric covering against the rim portion 9 of the supporting frame, and this covering is thus retained in a proper dust-collecting position.
As best shown in Fig. 4, I have mounted a. spout or trough M around the supporting frame to be disposed adjacent the rim 9, this trough or spout being adapted tocontain water. With this form of cover, when the fabric is fitted in place and the trough His filled with water, the water will be taken up by capillary attraction to moisten the covering, and as the heated air passes through the fabric, this water will be evaporated off to moisten the air.
While in the foregoing I have shown and described only certain specific embodiments. and have set forth certain specific manners of applying the dust cover for use, it will be appreciated that other changes and variations replaced, or a new covering can be used. The
