Description
S. D. SOLLERS.
' S'ALEMENS SEAT. N 169,331 Patentedhiov.2,1875.
N.FETERS. FHOYGUTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SABRITT D. SOLLERS, 0Ev PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SALESMENS SEATS Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 169,381, dated November 2, 1875; application filed November 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SABRITT D. SOLLERS, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a Combined Seat and Foot-Rest, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to afford convenience and comfort to the salesman of a boot and shoe store, as well as to the customer, when the former is engaged in measuring the foot of the latter or in fitting a boot or shoe to the same and this object I obtain by combining in one portable structure a seat, a, for the salesman and a foot-rest, b, forthe customer, as shown in the pictorial view, Figure 1, and side view, Fig. 2.
To the base A is secured the seat a, and to the samebase is attached a foot-rest, b, which l prefer to arrange in the inclined position shown, and to provide with a projection, d, for maintaining the customers foot in a proper position to be examined and manipulated by the salesman, who occupies the seat a, instead of resorting to the inconvenient kneeling attitude.
It is not essential that the combined seat and foot-rest should be constructed in the precise manner illustrated in the drawing; but, whatever style be adopted, it is essential that the seat and rest should occupy the relative positions shown, so that the salesman may be conveniently seated for measuring the customers foot and for manipulating the boot or shoe which is being fitted to the same, and so that the rest shall be in a proper position for the customer, who is seated on an adjoining chair, and who, if a lady, can conveniently dispose of her dress to her satisfaction.
It is also necessary that the seat andfootrest should be combined in one portable structure, so that it can be readily carried about and placed in front of any chair on which the customer may be seated.
I do not desire to claim, broadly, a portable structure in which a seat is combined with a foot-rest but I claim as my invention As an article of manufacture, a salesmans seat, consisting of a base, A, supporting a stool, a, and a foot-rest, b, placed opposite to and inclined downward from the spool, all as set forth.
In testimonv whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two sub- S. D. SOLLERS.
