Further objects ot the invention are to provide an overhead haulage carrier, yin a manner as hereinafter-set forth, and which comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly eiiicient in itsuse, convenient-ly operated, and comparatively ineiipensive to up.` i
TWiththe foregoing andoother objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specilically described and illustrated in theaccoinpanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment `of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fallwithin the scope ofthe claims hereunto appended.

An overhead haulage carrier, in accordance with this invention comprises an inclined traclr 1, formed-from a cable of the desired diameter and which is disposed at an inclination and has its upper` end coupled with the standards 2 of appropriate height as at 3. The lower end of the track 1 is anchored in any suitable manner and the anchoring of the lower endof the track 1 is not shown. Tvlfhen the carriage .8 Vreaches the position shown in full lines in Figure l, the nose 89 of the arm 88 will have moved through the opening i8 in the housing fl() into engagement with the nose 46 ot the latching member 45 secured within the housing Ll0. Simultaneously with the latching of the arms 38 and' 45, the upper ends of the arms 25 and'27 ot the bell cranks 28 and 2li will have moved into forcible Contact with the stops vertically to the-position shown in full lines4 in `Figure 2. In this manner, the cable 6 is .automatically released relative to the carriage 8, thereby permitting the cable 6 to be drawn through the carriage 8 to lower the load X tothe position shown at position D in Figurel. ln this position, `both the stops 7 and 8 are positioned between the load and the carriage 8. When it is desired to return the carriage to loading position, the cable 6 ,is drawn through the carriage 8 for a proper Adistance to locate the stop 7 between the latch members 86 and 87. The carriage 8 may then be returned to loading position bymeans ofthe cable 52, after releasing the arms`88 `and l5 from engagement by means of the cablev 5l and yoke 48. llhen the carriage 8 starts to move along the track l towards the `loading position, the arms 25 andl 27 of the bell cranks 28 and 2lare immediately released from contact with membersw36 and87 to fall by gravity into their normal positions with their bifurcated ends straddling the cable 6, one or' said latch members being disposed on either side of the stop 7. `When the carriage 8 is being returned to loading position, relative movement between the cable 6 and the carriage 8 is prevented bythe engagement of the stop 7 with the latch member 36.
It will belnoted that the stops 7 and 8 may move into position between the latch members 86 and 37 from either direction, but are prevented from moving out of such position except by actuation of one of the bell cranks.
The lock can be operated by means of a power line attached to the arms of the lock by putting in a spiraljspring hea f v enough to carry the weight of the power line plus a slight strain and by having it thus the lock can be released any place on the sky line without havingto take the carriage to the holder vwhich would be better for some classes of work.v

An overhead haulage carrier comprising a carriage, a track therefor, a combined haulage and load supporting cable extending` into and depending; from said carriage spaced stops secured to said cable7 a pair of spaced latching means Within said carriage, means to provide for one of said stops to coact-With said latching` meansto maintain the load in a suspended position and tor the propelling of the carriage in one direction from said cable, means to provide or the other of said stops to coact with said latching means to maintain the load engagdirection, means `for auton'iatieally latchin'zY said carriage stationary when it arrives at a point o t discharge tor the load, and means for automatically releasing` the cable to provide for the lowering` of the load when the arriagc arrives at the point of discharge for the load.
