E. H. cARLssoN MACHINE FOR RAMMING PAVING STONES AND THE LIKE Filed Sept. 22, 1926 MMA Patented Nov, 27, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST HJALMAR CQRLSSON, OF OSCARSHAMN, SWEDEN.
MACHINE FOR RAMMING PAVING STONES AND THE LIKE.
Application filed September 22v` 1926, Serial No. 137,020, and in Sweden June 16, 1926.
This invention relates to a device in machines for ramming paving stones and the like, by which device a uniform ramming of the stones is rendered possible.
The accompanying` drawing shows an embodiment of the invention, Figures l and 2 show the machine from two `sides at right angles to each other.
In the frame l of the machine is arranged a member in the form of a drinn 2, upon which is fastened one end of a belt 3 or another flexible member, the other end of said belt being joined with a ramming head 4 movable in vertical direction. In order that the ramming head may be guided during its movements, two vertical bars 5 are fastened on the same, said bars being movable up and down in sleeve-shaped guides 6 on the frame of the machine. The drum 2 is joined in a known Vway with a driving mechanism in such a manner that it rotates for a distance in sach a direction, that the ramming head is lifted from the ground, the drivingmechanism beingthen automatically disconnected,
so that the ramming head falls down freely,
I the drum being then again coupled to the driving mechanism for raising the ramming head.
The ramming head 4 has at its lower end a projecting part 7, shown best in Figure 2, which, when the ramming head is located above a stone to be rammed extends over an already rammed stone. When the ramming head falls, the stone already rammed limits the downward movement of -the ramming head, so that both stones are equally rammed. In Figure 2 the rammed stones are indicated by S, andthe placed stones to be rammed in turn are indicated by 9. The projecting part may have such a shape that it, when the ramming head is located above a stone 9 to be rammed, extends partly over a stone in the adjacent finished row of stones 8 and partly over the adjacent, rammed stone in the row which is being rammed.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my invention, I declare that what I claim is:
In a machine for ramming paving stones or the like, the combination with a rammer Working individually on the stones and provided with upright guides, saidv rammer being provided at its lower end with a laterally projecting portion, forming a working surface having a ramming surface suilicient to enable it to cover the stone to be rammed and at least one of the stones which has already been rammed, of a flexible lifting member one end of which iS attached to the rammer and an oscillating element t0 which the other end of the flexible lifting member is attached.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name. i
ERNST HJALMAR CARLSSON.
