UNITED STATES 1,692,632 PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH DICKEY, OF SNYDER, NEBRASKA.
DOOR HANGER.
Application filed March 28, 1927. Serial No. 177,624.
The invention relates to sliding door hangers and has for its object to provide a device of this character wherein the track is pivotally mounted thereby allowing the door to be swung outwardly desired to facilitate the closing and opening thereof.
A further object is to provide the door with hangers, which hangers are flat and extend upwardly through a slot in the underside of the track and :ermii'iate in transverse portions having wheels or rollers engaging the bottom of the track at opposi e tides of the slot therein.
A further object is to provide the under side of the track with downwardly extending flanges at opposite sides of the slot therein, and with which flanges a vertically disposed antifrictional roller mounted in the The vertically disposed roller in combination with the first mentioned rollers form an antifrictional support for the door at all times during its movement.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of a building showing the door and hanger applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the track and one of the hangers.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of one of the hangers showing the track partially aroken away.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of one of the hangers showing the same within the track.
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the roller 10.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the side of a barn or other building, and 2 a door opening therein. Horizontally disposed above the door opening is a track 3, which track is provided with upwardly extending arms 4, which are pivot ally connected at 5 to outwardly extending brackets 6 carried by the side of the barn, therefore it will be seen that the track as well as the door supported thereby will be swung outwardly as desired for facilitating the opening and closing of the door, consequently binding of the door is obviated.
The under side of the trackB is provided with a longitudinally disposed hanger receiving slot 7, having downwardly extending flanges 8 at opposite sides thereof and mounted on the portions 9 of the track are antifrictional rollers 10, which rollers are rotatably mounted on the ends of transversely disposed shafts 11 carried by the upper transverse portions 12 of the brackets 13, therefore it will be seen that the door 14: is antifrictionally supported. The bracket plates 13 extend downwardly through the slot 7 between the flanges S and are relatively thin in relation to the space 7, and provided with openings 15 therein in which is rotatably mounted the antifrictional rollers 16, and which rollers project beyond the opposite faces of the plates 13 and engage the inner sides of the flange 8 during a door opening and closing position, thereby insuringan easy sliding of the door, a positive pivotal movement of the track as a whole and in combination with the antifrictional rollers 10, reducing the friction to a minimum, consequently allowing the door to be easily and quickly opened with the minimum amount of power. It will be noted that the track 3 may be forn'ied from a plurality of sections, and where so formed apertured lugs 17 are provided whereby adjacent sections may be connected together by means of bolts.
From the above it will be seen that a door ban er is rovided as well as ti'aclr wav for the door hanger, which is simple in construction, and which may be cheaply manufactured and sold. it will also be noted that substantially all of the parts with the o):- ception of the rollers can be stamped from sheet metal, consequently the construction of the device can be simplified and the cost reduced to a minimum.
The invention having been setforth wnat is claimed as new and useful. is
A sliding door hanger comprising a plate, an opening extending entirely through said plate, a vertically disposed roller mounted in said opening, said roller having its opposite sides extending beyond the opposite sides of the plate and its axis in the plane of the plate, a transversely disposed member carried by the upper end of the plate and antifrictional rollers carried by the ends of the transversely disposed member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
JOSEPH DICKEY.
