Description

Patented Nov. 2 0, 1928,
' UNITED STATES EDUARD SCHWAB Z, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COLOR-BINDING- PREI PARATION.
No Drawing.
The invention relates to color binding preparations and more especially to such color binding preparations that are adapted to be easily and readily mixed with any dry 5 metal or earth color.
The object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation which will be, when prepared according to the directions described hereinafter, Weatherproof, waterproof, washable, and sanitary. I
Another object of the invention is to provide a colorbinding preparation adapted for use on inside and outside work, and giving a flat, velvety surface.
A further object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation, which is adapted to be used as a varnish.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation,
which is absolutely durable on fresh airdry concrete and on old concrete.
Another object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation having an excellent elasticity making the preparation especially adapted for painting sheet zinc.
Another object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation, which is adapted to be used for painting paper, Wood, plaster, brick, stone, concrete, composition board, glass, tin, and iron.
A further object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation adapted for painting churches, theatres, hotels, hospitals, sanitariums, schools, and other public build- Another object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation adapted to be used for painting plaster walls, and ceilings, and for imitatmg wall papers.
4 A still further object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation, which will keep its beauty and brightness for years, if lightproof colors are being used in combination with said preparation.
Anotherobject of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation, which can be washed with soap and water.
Another object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation, which is easier to mix and apply than the cold water and oil paints known and used heretofore.-
Another object of the invention is to pro- A pplication filed August 4, 1926. SerIaI No. 127,185.
vide a color binding preparation adapted to be used in combination with chalk, thereby eliminating the use of the expensive and poisonous white lead and zinc. Another object of the invention is to provide a color binding preparation adapted to be used for preparing disinfectant and germ killing varnishes.
The new color binding preparation consists of the following ingredients:
Casein, glue, flour, linseed oil, china wood oil, borax, ammonia, thymol, benzol, and cobalt dryer.
Preferably said ingredients are'mixed in the following proportions: Casein 5.3 units, glue 0.3, flour 0.3, linseed oil 2.4, china wood oil 3.7, borax 0.8, ammonia 0.1, thymol 0.03, benzol 0.1, and cobalt dryer 0.01.
The 0.8 units borax may be replaced by 0.8 units of soda, or, if desired, 0.5 units of borax and 0.3 units of soda'may be used.
The cobalt dryer may be replaced by any other suitable mineral dryer.
The above mixture can still be improved by adding 0.04 units of phenol and 0.3 units of water.
This preparation produced as described above and is highly concentrated and should therefore be dissolved in accordance with the following directions: q
The preparation should be stirred thoroughly until all the oil will be Well mixed'with the other ingredients. An amount of water 5 equal to the amount of the preparation is then added, the water having a temperature of approximately 160 degrees Fahrenheit. After mixing the Water and the preparation thoroughly another amount of Water equal to the first amount and of the same temperature is added and the Whole is stirred until a vthick paste is formed. 1
Then four more parts of Water of the same temperature are added, providing the preparation is to be used for outside work. In case of inside work 'five more parts of Water may be added. The mixture must be stirred until a smooth creamy emulsion is obtained. This emulsion must be absolutely free from 100 lumps. It must b'e'kept in a clean dry and tightly closed can, until it is to be used. It may then be mixed with any desired dry metal or, earth color.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by letters patent is:
A color binder consisting in a mixture of the following ingredients casein, glue, flour,
5 linseed oil, china wood oil, borax, ammonia,
thymol, benzol, and cobalt dryer in the following proportions: 5.3 units of casein, 0.3 units of glue, 0.3 units of flour, 2.4 units of linseed oil, 3.7 units of chinawood oil, 0.8.
units of borax, 0.1 unit of ammonia, 0.03 units of thymol, 0.1 unit of benzol, and 0.01 unit of cobalt dryer. I
In Witness whereof I have aflixed hereunto my signature.
