l This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a pumping mechanism.
This application is a divisional application, being divided out of my'pending application on pumping mechanism, filed July 3, 1926, under Serial No. 120,352.
One objectof this invention is to provide a novel type of support for the walking beam and crank shaft bearings of a well pumping mechanism. A
Afurther featureof the'invention is to provide, in a device of the character described a novel type of bracket employed.
With the above and other objectsin view this invention has'partic-ular relation to certain novel featuresof construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a fragmentary side elevation of a pumping apparatus embodying my invention, and

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates a foundation, preferably of concrete. Upstanding from this foundation there is a post 2, preferably consisting of a section of pipe. This post 2 rests fragmentary front elevaon a foot 3, which is anchored in place by a.
rod 4 whose lower end is embedded in the foundation and whose upper end is fitted through a central bearing in the foot 3.
Mounted on the upper end of the post 2 there is a yoke 5 having the upstanding spaced bearings 6, 6, in which the respective ends of the bearing rod 7 works and a walking beam 8 is mounted on said rod. The post 2 is braced by the brace rods 9, 9, 9, arranged in tripod fashion and preferably tubular in form. The yoke 5 has the downwardly diverging studs 10, whose lower ends are reduced to iit within the adjacent ends of the brace rods 9Y The lower ends of these brace rods rest on the brackets, as 11, mounted on the foundation 1. Each bracket 11 is secured to its foundation by means of anchor bolts, as 12, the lower ends of said anchor bolts being embedded in the foundation 1 and their upper ends being fitted through the corresponding bracket and outwardly threaded to receive nuts, as 13. Upstanding from the foundation 1 there is kanother post 25, similar to the post 2, but
preferably shorter and mounted on a foot 26, secured to the foundation in a manner similar to the foot 3.
On the top of this post 25 there is a. bea-ring plate 27 formed with a half bearing 28 and a bearing cap 29 is secured on said plate to complete the bearing 30 in which the crank shaft 81 works. On opposite sides of the post 25 there are the hooks 32, 32, which are embedded in the foundation 1, and anchor rods 38, 33, are engaged with the hooks 32, at their lower ends and their upper ends are fitted through the plate 27 and threaded to receive the nuts 34. The plate 27 has the downwardly diverging bosses, as 35, and tubular brace rods, as 86, have their upper ends fitted over said bosses with their lower ends fitting against the respective bearing faces 23 and receiving the bosses 24, of the corresponding brackets 11. Suitable ltie rods, as 37 are connected to the plate 27, at their upper ends and their lower ends `are formed with eyes which engage over the respective hooks 14 of the corresponding brackets 11, and these tie rods 87 have the turn buckles 38 by means of which they may be lengthened or shortened. The crank shaft 81 has a suitable crank arm 39 connected at one end to the pitman 40, which in turn is connected to the corresponding end of the walking beam 8. The other end of this beam is connected to the pump rod (not shown) in any conventional manner.
The brace rods 9 and 36 are `preferably formed of sections, united by means `of suitable couplings, as lil, and said brace rods may be lengthened or shortenedV by adding a section and detaching one, as desired.
It is to be noted that the brackets ll, employed, are all similar and thus interchangeable. When used to support the brace rods 9, the lower ends of said rods abut against the bearing faces l and when used -a's a support for the brace rods 36, the lower ends of the said rods 36 abut against the bearing faces 2S.

l. A device of the character described including a post, a bearing member thereon formed with a bearing, a bracket fixed in position and spaced from the post and formed with an inclinedbearing face, brace rod in# terposed between said bearing member and bearing face.
2. A device of the character described including a post, `a. bearing membercarried by the upper end thereof, a bracket hired in position and spaced from said post-,a hook carried by said bracket, one side of said hook being formed with an inclined bearing face, a brace rod interposed between said bearing member, and bearing face, and a tie rod,one
end of which is engaged with said hook and whose other end is connected to said bearing.
3. A device lof the character described including' an upstanding post, a bearing member thereon, a bracket spaced from the post and formed with two inclined bearing faces pitched at different angles, a brace rod adapted to be interposed between said bearing member and eitherof said bearing faces.
4. A device of the character described including an upstanding post, a bearing member, a bracket spaced from the post 'and formed with two inclined bearing faces pitched at different angles, abra'ce rod adapted to be interposed between said bearing member' and either of said bearing faces, a hook carried by said bracket, and a tie rod engaged with said hook, at one end, andconnected to said bearing member at its other end.
5. A device of the character describedincluding a foundation, a post 4anchored therete and upstanding therefrom, a `plurality of brackets fixed on said foundation and spaced from said post, each bracket having lan'inclined bearing face, brace rods interposed between said bearingmember andthe bearing faces of the respective brackets.
