Application filed March 11, 1927. Serial No. 114,591.
This invention relates to a tube for holding paste and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means'for facilitating the ejection of the material from the tube, by means of a follower arranged in the tube and actuated by means of a threaded shaft which is rotated b a. knurled disk arranged'at the rear end 0 the tune.
to Another object of the invention is to provide means for holding the tube against a wall or the like in such a manner that the ccting means can beoperated to eject some of the material. from the tube without necesl5 sitating the removal of the tube from the holder,
A further object of the invention is to provide means for indicating when the tube is empty.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended clauns.
in describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying rawings wherein like characters denote like or 39 corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing a number of tubes supported in a holder.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view through a tube.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view showing the means for indicating when the tube is empty.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
igure 6 is a view'of the nut member or follower.
In these views, 1 indicates the tube for i holding the paste or other material, this tube being formed in the usual manner, except that instead of folding the rear end upon itself, I close said rear end-by a circular block or member 2 which is formed with an annular groove therein so that a portion outer end of which carries a knurled disk 7 which forms a handle whereby the shaft can be rotated. Washers 8 are placed on the shaft, one on each side of the block and no .anut 9 on the shaft holds the parts together. A follower cl nut member 10 enga es the threaded portion of the shaft and sai member has a notch-11 therein which engages a longitudinally extending head 12 formed in 06 the tube by grooving the same exteriorly.
Thus b turning the shaft, the member 10 will be ed toward the outlet end of the tube, due to its engagement with the the threaded portion of the shaftand also due to the fact that it is held against rotation by the bead en aging the notch 11, so that the material Wlll be forced from the mouth of the tube.
When the follower nears the front end of 7 the tube, it will engage a pin 13 mounted in said front endv and project the same, thus indicating that the tube is empty.
I also provide a holder 14 for supporting a number of tubes on a wall or other support,
said holder having semi-circular grooves 15 therein, each of which is adapted to frictionally hold a tube. The bottom of each groove has a teat 16 thereonfor enterin the groove in the tube formed by the bee. 12, B so that the tube is held against rotation in the holder when the shaft is turned to eject some of the material from the tube.
This holder, as will be seen, will support the tube in such a manner that the material can be jected therefrom on to a brush or the like without necessitating the tube bein taken from the support, it being understoo that the tube is placed in the holder with its outlet end lowermost.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided 'simple means for facilitatin the ejection of material from a tube an without handling the tube or taking it from its support, so that toothpaste, for instance, can be easily and quickly applied to a brush.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that'I may 108 make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is: p
1. A tube of the class described having a closure in its rear end, a screw shaft having v an unthreaded portion rotatably mounted in the closure with a-threaded portion located in the tube, a follower in the tube .having a threaded hole therein engaged by the shaft,
I means for preventing rotary movement of .10 of the tube, for indicating that the tube is empty.
I 2. In a dispensing device of the character described, a tube having a constricted charge end,'a block member secured within the other end of the tube, a shaft having a smooth portion rotatably engaged axially thru said block, a head carried by said shaft above and.
threaded portion of the shaft, and means mounted at the discharge end of the tube and positioned in the path of travel of the folower and projectable thereby for indicating approximate emptiness of the tube.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FLOYD A. SCOTT.
