Description

A. STREIT.
Cutter-Bits.
Patented Oct. 26,1875.
UNITED STATES PATE1\TT OFFICE ANTON STREIT, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO J. A. FAY & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUTTER-BITS,
Specification formin g part of Letters Patent No. 169,204, dated October 26, 1875; application filed July 7, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANTON STREIT, of Cincinnati, in the connty of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain Improvement in Cutter-Bits, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to reduce the number of cutter-bits usually sent out from a shop With a Planing-machine, the bits being so formed that each can perform two different kinds of work.
My improvement consists of a cutter-bit,
one end of which is adapted for plain surfacing, while the other end is adapted for matching, cutting either a tongue or a groove. The bits covered hereby are complements to the cutterbits described in Letters Patent No. 162,114, and with them form a complete set.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bit adapted for plain surfacin g and grooving. Fig. 2 is a section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a bit adapted for plain surfaoin g and ton guing. Fig. 4 is a section of the latter.
Each of the cutters shown has a straight cutting-edge at oneend. The cutter A has on one side two parallel grooves, a a, running out at its midlength, and aflordiug the opportunit5 of conveniently grinding this grooved end with a projecting tongue, a, adapted for cutting the groove of a matching-edge. The outter B has on the other hand only a single central groove, b, on one side, terminating at its midlength, and by grindig the usual bevel on this grooved end a tonguing-edge Will be obtained.
What I claim 'as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cutter-bit, plain at one end With a straight cutting-edge for surfacing, and grooved l0n- ANTON STREIJ.
