HARVEY FREDERICli, or NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
My invention relates to a new and useful calendar and more particularly to an advertising calendar, which, in addition to serving the purpose of conventional calen- "dars, is also adapted for the effective advertising and display of merchandise. 7
It has been the general practice heretofore, for the desired advertising matter, such as the name and address of the manufacturer 10 or dealer, or the name of the product, to be displayed on the face of the calendar, either on the calendar sheets proper, that is, the sheets showingthe current dates, or on the back or support to which such calendar 16 sheets are usually secured. While this form of advertising calendar served to disseminatesome general'information about the subject matter of the advertisement, it was dis advantageous in that it made no provision 20 for the visual display and advertising of the particular articles to be advertised.
It is the object of my invention to provide a novel calendar which, in addition to disseminating any desired information about the merchandise to be advertised, such'as paints, leather, fabrics, paper and the like, will also visually place before the prospective customer, for an entire year, the actual physical qualities of said merchandise .so
advertised, such as the approximate colors,
texture, weightand thickness.
Another object'of my invention is to provide an advertising calendar of the character stated, which will not only serve visually to display the actual samples'of the merchandise advertised and give any desired infor mation with respect thereto, but will also serve to keepactual samples of the merchandise conspicuously in view throughout the 40 entire year that the calendar'may be in use.
My invention further contemplates the provision of a novel advertising calendar of the character stated, intended for distribution by manufacturers and dealers so desiring to advertise their wares, thus afl'ording an inexpensive and effective method of direct advertising.
To the above ends myv invention consists in providing a calendar with a plurality of auxiliary sheets placed back of or beneath the calendar sheets and having the advertising matter to be displayed visually carried bythe peripheries thereof, in such a manner that the same will be exposed to view at all times simultaneously with the calendar Application filed February 15, 1927. Serial No. 168,285.
sheets without in any way obscuring-the latter.
My invention'further consistsin providing a key, index or other table of information explanatory of or supplemental'to the advertlsing'matter displayed, such index or table being disposed upon the body portion of said. auxiliary advertising sheets and suitably identified therewith by the use of c'orresponding indicia. I I
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown, in the I accompanying drawings, a form-thereof, which is at present preferred by me, since it will give, in practice, satisfactory and reliable results, al though it is to be understood that tion.
Figure 2 represents a vertical section on' line 22, Figure 1. v
Fi ure 3represents a perspective view of the advertising calendar seen in Figure l with the calendar sheets removed.
p the vari-v ous instrumentallties of which my invention Referring to the drawings, in which like reference characters indicate like parts, 1
ing my invention, comprising the back or designatesan advertising calendar embodyother support 2 and the calendar sheets 3 secured thereto by the fastening means 4. A
loop 5 or the like, passed through a hole'in' the top of theback 2, may be employed to hang the calendar in place in the usual manner.
Referring now particularly to Figure 3 of the drawings, from whichthe front calendar sheets 3 have been omitted, 6 and? designate auxiliary advertising sheets suitably secured to the back 2. To the periphery of the sheets 6 and 7 are secured the sample strips 10 of the articles to be advertised, such as paint, leather, cloth, wall paper or the like.
On the central body portion of the advertising sheets 6 and 7 may be displayed the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor as at 8, and the stock or style number,
size, price and other tabulated information as at 9. The sample strips or tabsgenerally formation 9 under-the numeral 1, the size,
grade, price, and other information with regard to the particular sample strip numbered 1, is obtained.
While in the particular illustration shown in Figure 3, I have employed but two such auxiliary advertising sheets 6 and 7, it isto be understoodv that any number of. such sheets may be employed, for advertising the different samples of one or more species of merchandise. Similarly, the use of my novelcalendar is not restricted to the advertising of any particular article herein enumerated, but may be adapted for the advertising and displayof any desired article. Thus, for instance, if it is desired to display paints, suitable tabs or strips of material 10, colored with the particular paints or, pigments are secured to the periphery of the advertising sheets 6, and 7, substantially as shown in Figures '1 and 3. In like manner, the tabs .10 may consist of actual specimens ofthe leather, paper, textile or other fabric, or
other commodity advertised.
By placing theauxiliary advertising sheets 6 and 7 back of or behind the calendar sheets '3, the sample strips 10 designated specifically by proper indicia such as thenumerals 1, 2,
.3,etc., of the products so advertised, are at alltimes visiblesimultaneously with the calendar sheets Without in any way obscuring sheets (Sand 7, bearin v the advertising matter Will remain in e ective use throughout 4 5;
the, same; Furthermore, the advertising the entire year, since they are notsubjectto textile fa destruction or removal until the last calendar sheet, such as the sheet for the month of December, or for the last week or day thereof has been torn off and the whole calendar advertising sheets to the back 2 as Will be understood from Figure 2.
Itwill thus be seen that my novel advertising calendar is particularly valuable in advertisin such goods as paints, leather, ric, paper and similar articles,
since it brings the actual quality, texture and color of the article advertised, visually to the'attention of the prospective consumer in a forcible and effective manner for an entire year, and at a m1n1mum cost. It, Wlll further, be apparent that my novel device is equally adaptable to perpetual calendars so that the specimens of thegoods or merchandise thus displayed or advertised will be prominentlyin view for an indefinite period,
or so long as the perpetual calendar is in use. 'Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is .An article of the character stated, comprising a thin, relatively flat support, arranged to receive conventional calendar. portrayals, a leaf having a table of information thereon, said leaf being securedat its top 7 p only to said-support, andspecimens of goods to be advertised fixed along the; free marginal edges of said leaf and projectingin both horizontal and vertical manner therefrom, and an additional leaf secured at its top only to said support and arranged to cover said first mentioned leaf and concealing the at? tachment portions of said specimens but being'of such size as to permitv the projected ends of said specimens to be visible at all times, v
