.This invention ,relates to sewing machines and more particularly to improvements in the bobbin cases and rotary loop taker.`
The objects ofthe invention are to provide struction that the bobbin may be placed either a bobbin caseand rotary hook of such con-v the tension upon the lower thread to provide means for causing a self threading of the flc lower or bobbin thread through the tension upon the bobbin hcase ;`V tol provide-means .for 'preventing rotation of the bobbin .case without pinching the thread; to provide a twopart bobbin case having an annular groove at the meeting edges of the parts to receive therotar loop taker, and to. generally im:
prove an simplify mechanism of this chartacterl p The above and other objects may be attained by constructing the device in the manner illustrated intheaccompanying drawing, in whichy g 'Figure 1`is a plan sectional view of a porv tion of a' sewing machine, showing the improved bobbin case and loop taker;

.- 3`, a plan view of the sliding plate,
. ranged to engage the annular ange 23 upon x A ,portion of the base plate of a' sewing map 45 chine lis vshown at 1 provided with the dependin wall 2, through which the shaft 3 is jourl na ed, a
, of said s eangi, being xcd upon the extremity i aft. A bracket 6 is spaced from the v wall 2 as bythe lugs 7 and 8 and connected y thereto as by the'screws9`.
, A bevel pinion 10 is mounted upon the d lower end o the spindle 1,1 of therotary loop taker 12," said pinion meshing fwith the gear 4. The spindle 11 ofthe rotary loop taker isr journaled in a vertical bearing 13 formed', A` pair of aligned notches 38 are provided, 110
421, are proyided upon the upper face of the inthe bracket 6 and may be lubricated through the passage 14 communicating with the oil reservoir 15 provided in said bracket. An eccentric 16 is fixed upon the spindle 1l, just above the bracket 6,- and is-received in an elongated opening 17, formed in the central portion of the sliding plate 18. This plate is provided at each end with a slot 19 through which is located a screw or the like 2O,l secured in the braoketv, permitting a lcngitudinal reciprocating movement of the p a e. .i A pair of aligned, inwardly curved lfingers plate 18, one upon each side of the/central openinol'? thereof.
Thel dy portion 12 of the loop taker is of annular shape provided at its upper edge4 with aninturned annular flange 23 having a cut-o ut extending substantially one-fourth of the way around the same, terminating at one end in the inwardly directed loop seizing hook 24. y,
The bobbin case is formed' of two parts, the lower part comprising the supporting plate 25havingthe annular shoulder 26 arthe loo taker and provided with the radial notch 2 The thread case 28 comprises a cylinder preferabl formed upon the lowerportion 25. `of the obbin case and of suicient height and diameter to receive the usual round bobbin and has an inwardly disposed, annular :flange 29 at its lower end to Support the boba0 A radial slot 30 is provided in the thread case in radial alignment with the notch 27, an enlarged, radial shoulder 31"'being formed .j upon tha/thread case, forming a continuation 95 o one side of said slot; w
A leaf spring 32 is fixed as at 33 tothe thread case 'and has the outturned end 34 arranged to engage the shoulder 31 in alignv ment with the slot 30. The/'upper face of 100 tipe shoulder 31 is beveled, as best shown in v ig. 5.
. The upper member 35 of the bobbin case .is-substantially conical and provided with the eccentric openin receive the thre case 28. A curved cut-out portion 37 is provided to accommodate the spring 32 and a notch 27 corresponding with the notch 27 of the lower member.

36 of a size and shape to 105 purpose of receiving the lingers, as will be further described.
. and ermitting the ne In assembling the bobbin case, the lower member is inserted in the rotary loop taker 'beneath the flange 23, and the upper member placed thereover, the edge thereof resting upon the flange 2 Y' Screws 39 are then inserted through the apertures 40 and 41 in the lower and upper members, securing'the two parts of the bobbin case/together and holdingthe same in assembled condition upon the loop taker, which is thus permitted to rotate with vreference thereto.
In operation, the bobbin may be placed in the bobbin case in either position and the loose end of the thread from the bobbin will be taken up by the needle loop as the same 'passes around the bobbin case, pulling the' obbin thread through the slot and between the shoulder 31 and the tension spring 32, and directing the, extremit of the same toward the tube 22 which reglsters with the needle opening in the needle plate 42.
As the spindle 11 revolves, the eccentric 16 revolving therewith, will reciprocate the plate 18, always holding one of the fingers 21 in ena ement with the adjacent notch 38 of the obin case, preventin rotationlof the same le loop to pass a'ound the obbin case, the motion beingso timed thateach ingr 21 movesout of engagement with its note same. p
From the above, it will be' obvious that a as the needle loop passes the l *simple and eicient bobbin case is provided inP thread.
