G. G ONZALEZ DEVICE FOR PLAYING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS I Filed April 22, 1926 INVENTOR fiu'uumw bontahla A HORNE g Patented Nov. 6,1928.
PATENT orri v. 'i R znLEz, or J'OHNSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIAQ nnvica r'oR PLAYING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
' Application filed April' 22, 192s. SelialNo. 103.749;
This invention relates generally to musical instruments, the lnvention having more particular reference to anovcl type of pick used musical instrument easier.
For further:comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description andaccompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in Which'the various novel; features of the invention are more particularly set forth. p p 3 Fig. 1,0f the drawing, illustrates my improved pick, as it would appear when applied to the-hand of the user ready for, playing.
c Fig. 2, is an enlarged side elevational View, partly in section, of one-ofthc finger members as used in my improved pick. I
Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3ofFig.2:f c i 7 As here embodied my improved pick for playin string musical instruments, comprises nger tip members 10, hollow and suitably molded, or formed, preferably of rubber, or the like, so as to conform to the finger tips, and having projecting elements 1 1,;preferably comprising hard rubber, celluloid, or metal, suitably molded or imbedded therein, so as to be firmly held in place.
The finger tip members 10 are provided with spaced apart. attaching members 12, preferably of rubber which extendlongitudinally along-the sides of afinger as shown in Fig. 1. These strips of flexible material, such as rubber, orleather, are securely attached at their outer. extremities to the lowerportions of the tip members 10 by cement or by any suitable" means. The attaching members 12 of one finger tip extend substantially into the crotch between that finger'and the adjacent finger and are extended forwardly along the adjacent side of said adjacent finger. It should be understood that adjacent attaching members comprise a pair of superimposed integral strips, and that the fingertips 10 are connected together by these strips.
@Clips 14 are disposed around the superimposed stripsl2 for holding the latter in superimposed relation. Ring members'15 are disposedbetween the superimposed strips 12 and are adapted to slide relative to said strips As shown in Fig.1, these ring members are preferablypositioned, one between the first and second joint of the finger and the other between the second and third jointthereof. The clips l lmay be positioned in'close proximity to the-joints of the fingers for limiting sliding of the rings 15 the'reover. The'rings 15 are preferably of soft spring steel material and are provided with clips 16 which sur- 7 round the overlapped ends thereof. It should be understood that the rings 15 are formed toifirmly grip the portions of the finger on which they are mounted and to expand freely by relative movement of the overlapped end portions for acconnnodating fingers ofdiffer ent sizes. 7 It is to be, understoodthat' my improved pick, is usedto play string musical instrument, by picking the'desired strings with the projecting elements llQ It is to be further, understood that the hand ofthe player, when my improved pickis used, may be heldprac tically stationary, and not moved about as'is required when a piclgisuch as commonly used to play stringmusical instruments is em ployed.
While I have above described the preferred form, construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is, nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I therefore reserve the privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the inyention as claimed- Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the .United States is as follows 1. In a device of the class described, finger tips comprising hollow substantially cylindrical members having a closed end adapted to be disposed over the ends of adjacent fingers of a hand, attachin members comprising strips cent'fingers of a hand, attaching members comprising superimposed strips of flexible material attached at their ends to adjacent finger tips and disposed longitudinally of adjacent fingers, clips mounted on said superimposed strips for securing the same together in superimposed relation, and ring members slidably mounted between said superimposed strips for engaging around the fingers for retaining said strips adjacent the sides thereof.
3. In a device of the class described, finger tips comprising substantially cylindrical members adapted to be disposed over the ends of adjacent fingers of a hand, attaching members comprising superimposed strips of flexible material attached at their ends to adjacent finger tips and disposed longitudinally of adjacent fingers, clips mounted on said superimposed strips for securing the same together in superimposed relation, and ring members comprising resilient metal loops having overlapped end portions slidably mounted between the superimposed strips of said attaching members for engaging around the fingers between the joints thereof, said ring members being adapted to expand for accommodating fingers of different sizes and toresiliently grip each finger.
4. In a device of the class described, fin-.
mg superimposed strips of flexible material attached at their-ends to adjacent finger tips and adapted to be disposed longitudinally of adjacent fingers, clips mounted on said superimposed strips for securing the same together in superimposed relation, and ring members slidably mounted between said superimposed strips for engaging around the fingers for retaining said strips adjacent the sides thereof.
5. In a device of the class described, a plurality of finger tips comprising tubular members adapted to be disposed over the ends of adjacent fingers of a hand, a plurality of proj ections mounted on said finger tips for picking strings of an instrument, attaching members comprising superimposed strips of flexiblematerial attached at theirends to adjacent finger tips and disposed longitudinall Y of ad jacent fingers, clips mounted on 'sait superimposed strips for securing the same together and ring members comprising resilient metal loops having overlapped end portions slidably mounted between the superimposed strips of said attaching members for engaging around the fingers between the joints thereof, said ring members being adapted to expand for accommodating fingers of dift'ercnt sizes and to resiliently grip said fingers.
In testimony whereof I have atlixed my signature.
