My invention relates to improvements in road grading machines.
The object of my invention is to provide an elevatin attachment to a standard malt of road grading machine.
my invention is to col lect the dirt as it is scraped loose by the blade elevating it and loading it into a truck to be conveyed elsewhere.
A still further object of my invention isto provide a simple means for pulverizing the dirt as it is being elevated, the process of which is also an assistant for the elevating means.
A still further object of my invention is to provide an attachment for a road grading machine that will level the earth uniformly without forming a windrow of the dirt.
These and other objects willhereinafter be more fully explained.

The following is a detailed description of my invention in. which 1 is a standard make of a blade for road grading machines; the said blade being carried by a frame 2 mounted on wheels 3; a portion of the frame and one wheel being used to illustrate the mode of attaching and oprating my improvement. It will be understood that the blade of the grader is set at an angle transversely to the travel of the machine as shown at 1 in Fig. I. I do not claim the blade and the chassis of the machine broadly, but I do claim and set forth the following mechanism consisting of a shovel 4 having a carrying block 5 rigidly attached thereto; the said block has a vertical A further ob'ect of plane positioned at an angle. Across the plane thereof and vertically disposed are T- shaped grooves 7 adapted to receive tongued the said elevator comprising a chute 12 having rollers 18 and 13 trunnioned in the ends thereof and driven by a train of gears rotatably mounted in a housing 14 functioning as hereinafter described.
On the rear end of the chassis is positioned an internal combustion engine 15 having a sprocket 16 on one end of the-crank shaft of the engine, and 17 is a chain engaging with said sprocket and with a sprocket 18.which is rigidly attached to a shaft 19. On the said shaft is rigidly positioned a pair of toothed members 20, the teeth of which are set staggering; the said toothed members function as a dirt moving and pulverizing means. That is to say the said members being positioned near the rear end of the shovel act as means for movng the dirt rearward as it accumulates therein from the blade of the grader. The dirt thus moved by the members is thrown rearward on to the elevator 9 and conveyed rearward dumping in a truck positioned beneath the upper end of the ele' vator (the truck not being shown). As means for actuating the movement of the elevator I have provided a train of gears transmitting power from shaft 19 to the lower elevator roller 13 as follows; on the shaft 19 is a gear 21 transmitting its power through two idle gears 22 and 22; the last said gear being in mesh with a gear 23 which is rigidly attached to the shaft actuating the lower roller 13 functioning as a drive for the elevator belt 24. On the opposite ends of both elevator roller shafts are sprockets 25 having a chain 26 as actuating means for the top elevator roller 13'.
Pivotally attached to the shovel is a bail 27 to which is attached a cable 28 engaging on aroller 29 which is pivotally mounted on a beam 30. Revolvably mounted on the beam is a drum 81 functioning as means for winding the cable; said drum being actuated by a worm and gear having a hand wheel 32 attached to the worm; the said elements functioning as raising and lowering means for the shovel, and also as carrying means when the gears are locked at a determined position for the shovel. The Figures VII, VIII and IX illustrate a modified way of conveying the dirt longitudinally from the blade by means of a conveyor rotatably mounted having a pair of sprockets 34- trunnioned at both ends of the blade; the said conveyor slideably engaging on a bed 35 having a back 35 all of which is rigidly attached to the top edge of the blade 36 which in form is made to allow the dirt to slide rearward over the top edge thereof and lighting on the bed 35 between the conveyor bars 3.? by which means it is carried horizontally and degosited on an elevator similar to that shown in Figures I and II.

- Having fully described my inyention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is a 1. In improvements in road grading machines, in combination with a road grading machine, a block attached to one end of the machine grading blade an elevator having a shovel with means to adjustably connect it to said block so that the dirt sliding longitudinally along the blade will enter said shovel, an elevator angling upward and rearward and having the front or lower end engaging under the rear of the shovel and car ried thereby, the opposite end being carried by a beam laterally extending from the road grading machine frame, a plurality of toothed members rotatably mounted andcarried by the shovel as pulverizing and rearwardly moving means for the dirt to the elevator,
a housing having a train of gears journaled and a block, vertical T-grooves in said block i to receive said tongued members as connecting means for the blade and the shovel, a bail pivotally connected to said shovel and block,
a cable connected to said bail, means for actuating the cable for raising and lowering the shovel, an elevator engaging with the rear of: the shovel, toothed members rotatably mounted within the side walls of said shovel,
