`Figure 6 is a transverse section taken on line 6-6 of Figure 1, and,
, i Figure 7 is a plan view ofthe reinforcing strip or blank. i
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration, is shown a preferred yembodinient of myinvention, the numeral 10 designates the rear portion and the "numeral 11 the front portion, of the body portion of a pair of overalls or workgarinent. Arranged between the overlapping edges of the rear and front portions k10 ,and 11, at each side of the garment, is the usual side vent 12. The front portion 11 carries the usual front poel(- et 13.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a section of fabric or blank 14, Figure 7, embodying a forward reduced section 15 and a rear taperedsect1on16, which increases in width rearwardly, and these two sections are integral. Both sections 15 and 16 are foldable upon longitudinal lines 17 and 17', and the rear section isfoldable', in addition, upon indicated at 18a.
iure 5 is a transverse section taken on lines 18 and 19.. Anotcli 2O is cutin the sections 15 and 16, at their points of union, and a shoulder 2l is provided at vthis point;
In the application ci this continuous or` integral strip or blank, tothe garment,the
rear section 16 is first positioned, in an4 inverted relation, upon the inner facevof the rear bodyV portion 10, and stitched thereto longitudinally of and adjacentto the line 18,5.
This line vof stitchingr 18 is spaced from thefreeedge 'of the rear port-ion 10. forwardly over thenlin'e of stitching 18El causing the saine to be folded longitudinally Vupon the `line 18.` The section 16 is now folded upon the longitudinal -line 17, which isadjacent tothe free edge of the body portion 10, thus producing a face 17 L upon the inner side of the body portion 10 anda face 17b'upon the outer. side of the body portion 10. The section 16 is nowfolded inwardly along the line'17, producing a strip 17, having its inn er edge folded upon ditself, along' the line 19. Asclearly shown in Figure 5, the strip 17c is arrangedbetween the outer face 17'D and the body portion 10.`
The folded edge of the face 17c is preferably stitched longitudinally adjacent to the line 19. The section 16 constitutes a casing or facing enclosing the edge of the rear body poi'- vtion 10.
The rear section 16, thus folded and applied to the rear body portion 10, is stitched thereto adjacent to its outer edge, as indicated at 22 Figure 6, and theopposite edge of the section 16 is stitched to the body portion 10 as indicated by the line of stitching 23. The line of stitching 22 does not pass through the upper end of the rear section 10, as the rear section 16 tapers upwardly, and the foldedV reinforcing strip is stitched adjacent to its edge. Hence the stitching 22 is shown. passing through the section 10, in Figure 6and spaced from the edge of the section 10, Figure 5. i
The forward section 15 is folded longitudinally Aupon itself, along the lines 17 and The section 16 is now folded" i 17'., producing inner strips 24 and 25. This Vfolded forward section 15 is extended across the bottom of the yentand extends along the shown at 30. The notch '20. permits of the proper folding?T of the Sections 15 and 16, and the arrangement of the rear section 1G upon the inner and outer sides of the rear body portion, While the folded section 15 is positioned entirely upon the inner side of the front body portion 11. The folded section 15 is stitched at itsI inner and outer edges, to the front body portion 11. by continuations of the stitches 22 and 9.3. A transverse tack is preferably provided at the bottom of the vent. I may also secure buttonsl to thil folded section 1G and these buttons are adapted to be inserted Within button-holes formed upon the front body portion 11.
It is thus seen that I have provided a continuous strip of fabricj which encloses the edge of the rear portion of the le'arn'ient at the Side vent7 and this continuous strip extends across the bottom of the side vent and then up the inner face of the front portion. In this manner, the vent is reinforced at the bottom.
The front pocket is provided with the usual facing, which terminates at the bottom of the vent.
It is to be understood that the forni of my invention, herewith .shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the saine and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the sub joined claim.
Having claim:
The combination with the front and rear body portions of a pair of overalls or work garment providing:l a side vent therebetween, of an integral strip embodying a straight front section and a tapered rear section, the rear section having! a greater width than the front section and increasiirgt in width away from the saine, there being a notch and shoul der at the union of the front and rear sections, the rear section being.r folded longitudinally about the edle of the rear body portion providing inner and outer faces.y the inner face being folded longitudinally ad jacent to its longitudinal cde'c, providing; an inner fold Which is stitched to the rear body portion beneath the inner face, the outer face being folded longitudinally upon itself and stitched to the rear body portion adjaeem. the fold, the front section beiner folded lon- `titudinally at points adjacent to its lengt tudinal edles and applied to the rear face of the front body portion and stitched thereto through the folded edges of tbe front section.l the folded edges of the front .section constirutinar continnations of tbe folded edges of that portion ot the rear section which is arranged upon the outer face of the rear body portion.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
