The primaryobject-ofthe invention re` sidesin a brushor dusterffor use by barbers in applying powder tothe neck' orface of al `person for soothing purposes and which heretofore necessitated the shaking ofv the powder upon the bristles of the brush 'which resulted `in the spilling of the powder and loss offtime :in preparing the brush foryuse.

` In my powder duster, I` provide a powder compartment above `the bristles'fof thel brush `and control the 'gravity feed of the powder to thebrist'les by a suitable valve means, whereby such quantities ofpowder may be dispensedas needed.

Another object ofthe invention is to provide a pewderd'uster' whichincludes a powderk box having la brush section `removably associated therewith whereby 'the parts may be separated for, facilitating the filling of the boXy when empty, and the sterilizing of the brush section for cleaning and sanitary pur# poses. y

A further object of the invention is Vthe provision of a self feeding powder duster i which is convenient to handle and operate by one hand of an operator, and which may be constructed and sold at a reasonableprice.

WVith these and other objects inview, thev invention resides in certainynovel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fullydescribed, are articular-ly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in

which includes abrush section 11 and a re` `1novable housing 12. The brush section 11 comprises a brush back or body 13 having bristles 14 set therein and which depend from Athe underside thereof. The` brush backis rectangular inplanA and `is provided witha series of openings `15 which pass` therethroughand which constitute discharge openings for the powder' adapted to be conp tained inthe` housing 12. For restricting the outlet ends of the discharge openings, I

provide a regulating plate 16 which is set in the underside of the brush back and held in adJusted position by screws 17, the said plate being provided vwith 'openings 18v which mayfully register with the openingsY 15 or (lil partially register therewith to restrict the` flowV of powder therethrough. VThe upper face of the brush back is provided with an elongated recess 19 for slidably receiving a slide plate 120 which is provided with suitably spaced openings21for register with the openings 15 when it is desired'to dispense a quantity ofthe powder from the housing tothe bristles of thebrush. "The inner end of the slide plate lis provided with a reduced stem 22` which is slidably mounted in an ear 23 rising fromthebrush back andwhich stem extends into Va recess 24 in which an expansion .springl 25 is arranged and which, acts against one wall of the recess and washer 2G on the st em. This spring acts to y hold the plate in a position with the openings 21 therein out of register with the openings 15 in the brush back. The slide plate 2() constitutes a valve for controlling thev discharge of powder from the powder compartment. The plate20 is also provided with a manipulating element`27 which extends through yone of the end walls of theA housing 12 and by which an operator may actuate the'slide plate against the action of v the spring 25 tobring the

The brush back 13 is provided Awith av flange 28 withA which the flange 29 on the housing 12 engages to providea tight seal between the brushl back and the housing for preventing the accidental leakage of powder through the joint.

One end of the brush back is provided with a lug 30 for reception' in a slot 31 in the housing 12, while thel opposite end of the brush back has av pin 32 extending therefrom for reception in a slot 33 in the opposite end of the housing 12.` The housing is attached to the brush back by causing the lug 30 to seat in the openings 21 whereupon the housing is swung down so that the pin 32 enters the slot 33,

Yafter which a spring catch 34 carried by the housing snaps over the pin and locks the llo housingr to the brush section. By releasing the catch 3l the parts may be separated for facilitatingr the lilling of the housing with powder when necessary.

Baiile walls 35 extend inwardly from opposite walls of the housing and are disposed in staggered relation and which are intended for disintegratingr the powder by shaking; the cluster in order that the particles of powder' are prevented from becoming lumpy whereupon they would not pees through the restricted dieeliarge openings* The housing; l2 constitutes a handle for the cluster and is .grasped by one hand of an operator` who i5 able to prees the manipulating element QT with the thumb ot the saine hand which holds the (luster when it in desired to permit'l a euppl \v ot powder to he dispensed to the bristles ot the brush section. The powder drops on to the bristles and ie applied to a user in the usual manner. By having the housing` removable Jfrom the brush Section, the brush section may be cleaned and sterilized when necessaij7 and also the housing inayberelilled with powder when the supply becomes exhausted.

Thilo I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment ot my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied Without in any way departing Jfrom the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not liniit myself to the exact details ol construction herein eet forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention liinited only by the appended clailn.
