STOPPING DEVICE FOR LOOJHIS.
Application filed December 20, 1927, Serial No 241,401, and in Germany October 16, 1926.
This invention relates to a, stopping device for looms having a trigger or stop-lever provided upon the main driving shaft which carries the rotating member of the loom, said trigger or stop-lever coming into engagement with a catching device which may be operated by means of a connecting rod or wire in order to stop the operation of the loom.
With the known stopping devices of this kind on the one hand a relatively large time is required for stopping the loom and on the other hand the operation of said device is too uncertain, because the trigger or stop-lever of the loom is liable to slip out of the catching device by reason of the vehement impact taking place between the several members which come into engagement with each other during operation of the stopping device. For this reason all stopping devices which up to the present had been proposed or devised could not find any practical application.
According to my invention these disadvantages will be obviated, by providing a stopping or catching device for looms which will operate quickly and with positive certainty. My invention consists essentially therein that the stopping or catching device is provided with a resiliently mounted catch-lever which carries at its free end the catch, the latter be ing pivotally connected to said lever. In addition to this according to my invention said catch is of such conformation that it will be readily erected after coming into a slight preliminary engagement by mere contact with the trigger or stop-lever provided on the main driving shaft or rotary member of the loom.
In this manner the catching device will come with absolute certainty into engagement with the trigger and therewith stop the rotary member of the loom, if a stopping of the latter is desired.
My invention will be more fully understood by referring to the accompanying drawing showing the stopping device according to my invention in three positions of operation. More particularly, Fig. 1 shows the new stopping device in inoperative position, the catching members proper of the device. being fully disengaged from each other, while Fig. 2 shows said device in slightly engaged position and Fig. 3 in fully engaged position.
In the drawing the trigger or stop-lever which is designated with the reference letter Z) is fixedly mounted on the driving shaftaand will therefore rotate with the latter and the rotary member of the loom. At a proper place of the loom there is mounted swingably around the point a the double-armed lever h. The catch-lever e is mounted at the free end of the upwardly directed arm of said doublearmed lever Zr, so as to be able to freely swing around the point f. In disengaged condition of the stopping device, as shown in Fig. 1, the catch-lever e rests upon a stop it provided on the horizontally positioned arm of said double-armed lever 72, and is provided at its free end with a nose 3 a catch cZ being pivoted onto said catch-lever c at a point in the rear of said nose y. The arm or lever 39 is fixedly connected to said catch (Z so as to form an extension lever thereof. The lever 39 may thus be swung towards the right by means of the operating rod 9 or the like, thus erecting said catch (Z. There is further provided a stop Z as well as a spring is tending to move the horizontal arm of the double-armed lever it towards said stop Z, in fully disengaged condition of the stopping device, as shown in Fig. 1.
In order to stop the loom, the operating rod 9 is pulled towards the right, therewith swinging the arm or lever 19 and the catch (Z so that the latter will be in looking posi tion. The motion of the arm 19 and the catclrcZ needs to be only very small in order to bring about a contact or preliminary engagement of the catch (Z with the knife 0 which is fixed to the free end of the trigger or stop-lover b. The catch -(Z will now at once he further erected so that the fullest possible engagement will take place between the catch cZ and the knife 0 of the trigger, as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
The knife 0 in preliminarily locked position of the stopping device as shown in Fig. 2 will engage wit-h the catch (Z along a part of the obliquely positioned engaging surfaces. Be fore an appreciable resistance is offered at the preliminarily engaging surfaces the catchlever 0 will therefore be swung in upward direction towards the trigger or stop-lever b and pressed against the latter. In this condition of the stopping device now a more essential resistance will be offered at the engaging surfaces, and in consequence thereof the knife 0 will be positively locked and slipping of the latter out of the locking engage ment will be rendered impossible. During upward swinging of the lever 0 due to the full engagement of the members (Z and 0 the double-armed lever it will be rotated against the power of the spring 70 so that the shock produced by the full engagement of the mem bers d and 0 of the stopping device Will effectively be damped out by the resiliency of said spring.
I claim:
1. In a stopping device for looms, the combination of a trigger fixed upon the driving shaft of a loom, with a catch-lever mountedresiliently at one of its ends, a catch carried by the other end of said lever, said catch being adapted to erect itself when coming into slight engagement with said trigger, thereby more effectively engaging said catch With said trigger.
2. In a stopping device for looms, the combination of a trigger fixed upon the driving shaft of a loom, with a catching device for said trigger, said catching device co1nprising a resiliently mounted double-armed lever, a catch-lever pivoted freely swingably onto the free end of one arm of said double armed lever, a, catch pivoted onto the free end of said catch-lever, and operating means for bringing said catch into slight engage-V SAVERIO B UGGER.
