V This invention'relates to an inking attachment for impression elements, suchas electrotypes, zinc etchings, half tones, engraved plates, cuts, etc, and has for its ob ject to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an attachment of the class referred to connected' to the impression element and operated by the platen or impression cylinder of a printing press for supplying ink to the element for printing therefrom. 7
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an attachment for the purpose referred to for connection directly to the impression element and'adapted when operated to supply ink upon the facexof the element for printing directly therefrom and which is simple in its construction and; arrange ment, strong, durable, compact, automatic in its action, thoroughly eflicient in its use, readily installed with respect to theimpression element, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. 'With the foregoing andotheryobjects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specificallyde scribed, and illustrated inthe accompany ing' drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within "the scope of the claims hereunto appended. The attachment comprises a base 1 formed with an opening 2' and a recess 3 provided in one ofthe walls of the opening 2. Thebase forms a carrier or support for the impression element 4 which extends over the top or front end of the opening 2. Preferably the base 1 is of rectangular contour andformedfof a wooden block of substantial thickness, width andlength. Theimpression element 4 can be an electrotype, zinc etching,;half tone, engraved plate, or .cut for newspaper work. The printing is done directly from the impression element as originallymade. In combination, an impression element formed With ink supply'ports, a contractt ble receptacle secured to the lower face of said element and providing an ink reservoir communicating with said ports, and means connected to said receptacle and extending through saldeleinent and operated from a part ot a printing press for contracting the ture hereto.
