In constructing my invention I utilize a pipe or a string of piping, and to the base of this piping I attach a bucket having a bottom dumping trap, this trap being held closed by a latch. Slidably mounted on the bucket is i a sleeve and in the lowermost position of such sleeve the latch is locked closed, holding the trap in its closed position. WVhen the sleeve strikes the bottom of the'well or an obstruction, it is forced upwardly, releasing the latch and allowingthe trapv to dump,

A. suitable pipe or pipe string is indicated by the numeral 11 and this is connected to a cement bucket, designated generally by the numeral 12, there being a screw threaded coupling 13 between the lower end of the pipe and the upper end of the bucket. The main body of the bucket is of reduced diameter over that of the connection or coupling, as indicated by the parts having the numbers 1 1 and 15. A trap 16 is secured to the open lower end 17 of the bucket by means of a pivot pin 18 connecting ears 19 on the trap with a groove, a recess 23.

The latch is allowed to swing on the head 25, which fits in the recess 23. Therefore, when the trap is opened, as illustrated in Figs, 2 and 3,

A well cementing bucket comprising in combination a bucket structure, a dumping trap pivotally mounted within said bucket, a latch shiftably mounted on the outside surface of the bucket structure, a sleeve slidably mounted on the bucket structure, the sleeve engaging the latch in its lowest positionand retaining the latch to lock the trap closed, the sleeve having an opening to allow movement of the latch when the sleeve slides to an upper position, and hence allow dumpmeans to guide and restrict the movement of the sleeve, the sleeve in its lowest position engaging the back of thelatch whereby the'latch may hold the trap in closed position, said sleeve having an opening to allow outward movement or the latch when in its upper posi tion whereby the trap may bereleased and opened.

A well cementing bracket comprising latch fittin in said roove and havin a catch b D b to hold the trap closed, a sleeve slidably mounted on the bucket, said sleeve in its lower position engaging the back of the latch to prevent its movement from a locking 'position, and in its upper position allowing swinging outwardly of the latch to release the trap.

A well cementing bucket comprising in combination a'tubular bucket structure ha ving a pivotally mounted trap at its lower end, there being a longitudinal groove on the outside of the bucket structure with a recess at the top of the groove, a latch having a head fitting loosely in the recess, the main portion of the latch fitting in the groove, a d having a catch at its lower end to engage the trap,

A well cementing bucket comprising in combination a tubular bucket structure hav ing a pivotally mounted trap atits lower end, the bucket structure havinga groove in" one side with a recess at theupper end of the groove, a latch havlng a head, the head loosely fitting in the recess and the" main portion of the latch in the groove, the latch having a catch at its lower end to engage the trap, a sleeve having a plurality of opposite slots, pins extending through said slots and connected to the bucketstructure to guide and limit the sliding movement of the sleeve, the sleeve in its lowest position engaging the back of the latch whereby the trap may held locked, there being an elongatedslot adjacent the latch to allow outward swinging thereofwith the sleeve in the upper position 7 to allow release of the trap by the latch.

A well cementing bucket, as claimed in claim 7, the latch having a curved nose structure, and the trap having a camn'ied surface engaging such nose structure whereby on release of the back of the atch by the up ward movement of the sleeve the trap is forced downwardly by the weight of ma-- terial thereon. v V In testimony whereol' l havesigned my name to this specification.
