My invention relates to lamps particularly such as used in hand lanterns, carriage lanterns and the like, and consists in combining the lamp with a petrol lighter arranged so 5 as to allow of lighting the lamp without opening the casing or other protector. The Object of this arrangement is to facilitate the lighting of the lamp in stormy weather and to eliminate the risk incurred when lamps are lit with matches and the like in the presence. of straw or other easily inflammable substances.

l claim:

The combination in a lighting'device for lamps especially lanterns, of a lamp burner and a secondary burner lighted by means of a. pyrophoric sparking device consisting of a metallic container of spirit, a wick tube a, a cap to close the mouth of said tube fastened by means ofan arm to a disc m, turning loosely on a shaft d, mounted in brackets c, a clutch member p slidably feathered on said shaft (v and controlled by a spring e, an abrasive wheel u, a. flint 'u pressed against said wheel and a pinion e fixed on vshaft d, said pinion meshing with a gear Wheel. f mounted on the shaft it, a milled wheel g to turn said shafts, all substantially as described.
