R.. T. WINDLE` TRIGGER LOCK FOR FIREARMS Filed May 25, 1927 INVEN VOR w1 :Naf/lf; A1 TORNEV Patented Oct. 2, 1928.
RANDOLPH T. WINDLE, OF -NEW YORK, N. Y..
'rmeenn Loox ron FIBEARMS.
Application led May 25,
This invention relates to improvements in trigger locks for fire arms. c
' The primary object of the invention 1s the provision of a lock by means of wlnch the trigger of a revolver or gun may be locked to prevent accidental discharge of the same when not intended for ready use.
Another object is to provide' a trigger lock which includes two separate 3o-acting sections which are applied over the trigger guard of a gun and locked thereon to completely house the trigger so that access to the same cannot be had by an unauthorized -person or child.
A further object of the invention 1s the provision of trigger lock attachment for fire arms which may be applied to fire arms now in use without any change in construction thereof. i
A still further object is to provide a trigger lock which. is simple of construction, 1nexpensive of manufacture and easy to apply or remove from a ire arm.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of arts, the essential features of which are ereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are 3o illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a revolver with my improved trigger lock in position thereon.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure et is a detailperspective view of the lock sections in separated condition.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved trigger lock in its entirety which includes a pair of co-acting shell sections 11 and 12 of a shape corresponding to the shape of the trigger guard 13 of a revolver 14. The sections 11 and l2 are provided with ` meeting flanges 15 and 16 respectively for enclosingthe underside of the trigger guard,
and which sections are hingedly connected together at the meeting flanges as at 17 so that the sections may be swung away from 19291'. serial 110.194,155. I
each other when applying or removing the lock, .and tol be brought together 4when in an applied position.
The usual trigger 18 extends from the body of the revolver into the guard and for preventing the backward movement of the trigger, I provide co-acting lugs 19 and 20 on the innersides of the sections 11 and 12 respectively. These' lugs lie between the trigger and the trigger guard in the path of backward movement of the trigger for pre# venting any possible movement of the trigger to a firing position should the revolver be dropped.
For maintaining the sections 11 and 12 in a locked position upon the revolver, I provide the section -12 with a keeper 21 which enters the housing of a lock mechanism 22 provided on the inner face of the section 11, and which keeper receives the lock bolt of the lock mechanism upon the lnsertion and turning of a key by placing the same through a keyhole or keeper 23 leading onto the outside face of the section 11.l The lock bolt enters the keeper 11 and maintains the sections in a locked position' about -the trigger. When it is desired' to removethe lock to expose the trigger for use, a key is inserted into the lock ymechanism and turned to release the lock bolt from its keeper, whereupon the sections are free to' swing outward to permit the same to be lifted away from the trigger guard.
From the foregoing description, it Willbe seen that I have provided a triggerlock for fire arms which'will prevent accidental discharge of the fire arm by reason of tampering therewith and the same will be found useful in cases where fire arms are kept and are subject to handling by unauthorized per sons.
While I have described what Ildeem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the 'detailsmay be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention', and
I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims. n
What is claimed as new 1s 1. In combination with a fire arm having lim said trigger ard in the path of backward 5 movement o said trigger, and lock means for holding said sections in locked position upon said re. arm.
2. A trigger lock for fire arms a pair of sectionshingedly conne comprising cted together and adapted to enclose thetrigger and 10 i trigger guard of a fire arm, co-actin' lugs on sald sections for preventing the bac ward movement of the trlgger, and co-acting lock e means on said sections for holding the same in a closed position.
In testimony whereof I have aiixed my signature.
- RANDOLPH T. WINDLE.
