Description

July 7, 1959 A. M. PELUSO 2,893,152
TRIGGER LOCK Filed Oct. 10, 1955 INVENTOR. 11795)? JV. 2511716 United dtates This invention relates to locks for triggers of firearms.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a trigger lock which will prevent the trigger from accidently firing and which will prevent shooting of the firearm by unauthorized persons.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a trigger lock of the above type which, when locked upon the trigger, will prevent accidental and unauthorized discharge of the firearm except upon opening of the lock by a key and which may be easily and readily mounted upon the trigger and as readily removed.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a trigger lock bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minirntun number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention shown alone and in the locked position;
Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view showing the invention in the open position;
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view showing the invention in operative use on the trigger of a pistol and showing the invention in open position; and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the invention in the closed or locking position.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, represents an elliptical plate adapted to fit within the trigger guard 11 of the pistol indicated generally at 12, the plate 10 having a central recessed portion 13 which receives therewithin a trigger 14 of the firearm.
The forward portion of the plate 10 on one side is provided with a cylindrical bore 15 which receives therewithin the cylindrical lock housing 16 mounted on a cover plate 17, the plate 17 having a recessed portion 13 which is aligned with the recessed portion 13 in co operation therewith to receive the trigger 14 therewithin. The cover plate 17 is hingeably connected to the rear end of the plate 10 by means of the integrally formed hinge plate 19 which is received between the bearing portions 20 of the plate 10 and the pin or pintel 21 (Fig. 2).
The lock 16 includes the key 22 for operating the atent G same and the latch 23 operable by key 22 and which is received within a recessed portion 24 (Fig. 3) provided in the bore 15 whereby to retain the cover plate 17 in closed relationship to the plate 10.
In operation, with the lock in the open position of Fig. 2, by means of the key 22, the plate 10 is cast into the trigger guard 10 on one side of the trigger 14, re ceiving the latter within the recessed portion 13. The cover plate 17 is then closed onto the trigger 14 and locked to the plate 10 by means of the key 22, as shown in Fig. 4.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A trigger lock for a firearm having a trigger and a fixed trigger guard having a substantially elliptical opening for said trigger, said trigger lock including the combination of a correspondingly elliptical plate adapted to fit within said elliptical opening within said guard and having upon the inner face thereof a curved slot or recessed portion serving to receive the trigger in the same upon the inner side of said plate, the plate also having upon said inner side forwardly of said curved slot a lock recess, a releasable means for retaining the plate in place within said guard comprising a complementary plate of relatively smaller area than the area of the elliptical plate also having a slot for receiving the trigger in co-operation with that in said elliptical plate, the latter having a pair of hinge lugs spaced vertically apart upon the inner side thereof rearwardly of the curved slot thereof, a narrowed rear extension upon the rear end of the complementary plate fitting between said hinge lugs and having a pivot pin extending through the lugs and rear extension for hingedly connecting said complementary plate to the elliptical plate to swing about an upwardly and rearwardly inclined axis, and a lock upon the complementary plate projecting upon the inner side thereof forwardly of the slot thereon in effective position to fit into the lock recess of said elliptical plate, and said complementary plate having a key slot in the outer side thereof for opening and closing the lock and retaining or releasing said complementary plate at will, said elliptical plate fitting within the outline of the trigger guard and the complementary plate partially filling the opening in said trigger guard when the two are locked together and visually locking the trigger in immobile safe condition.
