This invention relates to a traiic indicating crosswalk marker; and has for its object to provide a plate adapted to be set into the sidewalk, carrying traflic directions on its face.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for illuminating the plate so as to attract the attention of the traiic.
With these and oher objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved plate as set into the face of the sidewalk to indicate the crossing place.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the trafc directing plate showing the markings thereon' to be read from both sides of the plates. p
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2 showing the edges as arranged to be dovetailed and so fastened into the face of the sidewalk.
Figure 4 is a sectional side elevation illustrating my improved traliic directing plate as inserted into the sidewalk and showing pockets at its end carrying lamps to illuminate portions of the plate.
Figure 5 is a view of the pocket covering lens locking ring.
It is found to be of advantage in city streets where traffic is heavy to set a plate in the sidewalk to indicate to the pedestrians where they are to cross the street and also to indicate to the vehicular traffic in the street where the cross walks are, so that they will not stop thereon to block the same.
It is also found to be of advantage to ill luminate these traffic directing plates so as to call attention thereto. and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention and showing one conA struction of traffic directing plate by which these advantageous results may be accomv plished With reference to the drawings, designates my improved traiiic directing plate which is preferably provided with beveled 1926. in'most instances, is sufficient to securely retain the plate in positon without bolts or other locking means. On the face of this plate, l preferably form traino-directing indications so that a pedestrian approaching along'the sidewalk can `read the sign Cross here while vehicular traffic in the road will see on the opposite side of the same plate the words Cross walk, which will indicate to them that they must not stop and block this walk.
In some instances instead of positioning an electric lamp in this pocket 14, I may cover the face of the pocket with illuminating material so that it will shine through the lenses and attract the attention of traffic.
My improved traffic direction cross walk marker is very practical in construction and is effective in its operation showing to both pedestrians and vehicular traliic the position of the crossings.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I y desire it to be understood that I reserve the yprivilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the
invention being defined and limited only by 1 therein for the reception of an illuminating member and it lens closing the pocket opening and covering said member.
2. A trac directing cross Walk marker 5 comprising an elongated. plate having a lamp receiving pocket formed at eachthereof, and a lens for closing the pocket.
3. A traffic directing cross Walk marker comprising an elongated plate having hol- 10W protuberances forming lamp receiving 10 pockets at its ends to be set into the sidewalk, the face of the plates'hzwing traliic directions thereon.
