rLow ATTACHMENT.
Application led September 13, 1927. Serial N'o. 219,270.
This invention relates to an attachment for plows, one of the objects being to provide a simple and eiiicient device which, when applied to the beam of a plow in proper position, will act to gather and turn down the weeds in the path of the plow so as to insure clean plowing. y
With the foregoing and other objectsy in view which will lappear as the description proceeds, the invention resi-des'in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention r herein disclosed may bemade within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accomp-anying drawings, the pre-y ferred form of the invention has been shown. In said drawings, v Figure l is a side elevation of a plow having the present improvements combined therewith. Y
Figure 2 is a plan view of the structure shown in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a view partly in plan and'partly in section showing the relative position of the jointer and the attachment constituting the present invention, said view being primarily a sectio-n on line 3 3, Figure l.
Figure 4l is a sect-ion on line 4.-4., Figure 2. Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates the beam of a vplow 2 and located adjacent this point of the plow is a ointer 3 following a disk. This structurey is similar to thatI o-f plows already in use.
VThe attachment constituting the present invention includes a standard 5 the lower end of which has an arm 6 extending at an angle therefrom and curvedV rearwardly and laterally as shown particularly in Figures l and 2. Secured to the side face of the standard 5 and the front face of the arm l6 is a deflecting shield 7 formed of a sheet of relatively stiff material, such as steel, the inner or forward edge of this sheet being bent backwardly as indicated at 8 so as to straddle the standard 5 to which it may be connected by means of rivets 9 or in any other suitable manner. The lower edge of the shield is Hush with the lower edge of the arm 6 and is connected to said arm by rivets or the like, as shown. Thev shield 7 is so curved that its intermediate and outerjend portions are inclined upwardly and forwardly. Consequently, as the vplow y is moved-forwardly, this shield when properly attached to the plow', will gather standing vegetation and deflect it downwardly into the path of the plow so that the soil, when overturnedwill be deposited on vthis vegetation. The standard 5 can be attached to the beam l in any manner desired. As shown in the drawings it is held to one side of the beam by means of clamp-ing plates l0 connected by bolts l1. extending above and below the beam and at opposite sides of the standard.
It will be noted that this attachment can be applied readily-to a plo-w and it will be found that in practice' constitutes very efficient? same to t-he beam of a plow, a rearwardly and laterally curved arm at the lower en-d of the standard, and a plate securedto the standard and the front face of the arm,'said plate being curved from side to side with its concave face in front vand inclined upwardly and forwardly. y y
2. T he combination with a structure including a jointer and a turning plow, of an attachment including a standard, means for detachably securing the standard to the structure, said standard being. supported above the path of the jo-inter, a` rearwardly and laterally curved arm at the lower end of the standard extending across the path of the turning plow, and an upwardly and forwardlyinclined plate secured to the standard and arm and curved from side to side, the front face ofthe platebeing concave and constitut- FRANK nnosiininninnv Y
