lThis invention relates to improvements'in ophthalmic mountings land particularly to goggles or eye protectors' for aviators and the like.4
rIhe principal object of the invention 1s to provide a ventilation for' the eye cups which may be Voperated by air currents striking the exterior of the device from opposite direcy tions.
Another object of the invention is to provide simple, eiiicient and inexpensive means for Ventilating the vinterior of the eye cups automatically through the wind pressure eX- erted by the motion of the wearer through the air. Y
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection' with It is well realized that at the high speed at which aviators travel strong wind currents are created against the front of their goggles or eye protectors. It is also realized that these currents may come in opposite directions; they may be from right to left, or they may be from left to right. It is very essential that the eye cup space of such e e protectors be ventilated to prevent them rom fogging and steaming, etc.
In my invention I have utilized these air currents for the ventilation of the interior of the eye cup, providing such arrangements that will work whether the air comes in from right to left or from left to right, this being, so far as 'I am aware, an entirely new idea in devices of this kind. .f

The eye cups 2 have been provided with openings 7 at the top and bottom, as shown in F ig. 3. Over this opening 2 is provided and secured a funnel shaped member 8 having va flared opening at 9 and a smaller opening at 10. It will be notedv from Fig. 3 that the flared opening at the top is on the left vhand side while the flared opening at .the
bottom is on the right hand side and it is "the opposite arrangement of these two flared openings that provide the means by which I may ventilate the interior of the eye cups when the wind is coming either from the right or from the left, as the case may be.
The operation ofthe ventilation' is as fol-.y lows: ReferringA to Fig. 3, we Awill assume that t-he air is coming from the -left or inA the direction of the arrow 1l. When the wind is comingffrom the opposite direction, orfrom the right, it will come through the lower opening 9 and out the openinglO, Fig, which will cause a suction through the opening 7, drawing air in from the top, thus reversingthe direction of the current from that shown when with a lens and means for holding the eye cup tightly against the vface and openings through the walls of the eye cup, one on the top and the other on the bottom thereof,V said openings being spaced intermediate the ends of the eye cup, and a funnel shaped tube over each opening extending longitudinally of the eye cup end'` having the opening through the tube communicating With the' opening in the eye cup at a point inter-me; diete the ends of thetube, the larger end of one tube being on the nasal side and the larger end of the other tube on the temporal side of the respective openings through the eyer cup whereby air rushing through-one tube will cause a suction to exhaust air from the interior of the eye Cup :ind to draw vresh nir into the eye leupthroug'h the other tube.
