A pair or parallel longitudinally extending sectiony adapted to engage and to interlock with corresponding undercut slots d or recesses in the detachable heel (l. The ribs or bars c advantageously extend short ot the rear of th-e heel and the slots (Z or recesses in the heel l may be substantially co-extensive so that thus the rear part of the heel presents an unbroken contour.
As shown in Figure l, the detachable heel l is applied in position by sliding longitudinally towards the toe ot the shoe, the position of use beingvdetermined, by means ot a flange ZJ extending downwardly trom the base plate at the front end thereof. Sheet metal tags e or the equivalent may be provided upon the detachable heel advantageously flush with the upper surface thereof, the tags e or the equivalent being adapted to extend through corresponding slots b2 in the tlange Z1 oit the base plate Z), and (as shown in Figure 2) being turned orbent upwardly or downwardly to engage with or against the outer or front face of the flange b. By such means it will be understood that the detachable heel may be held firmly in positionduring wear.
VVhen it is desired to remove the detachable heel Z for the purpose of replacement or reneWal, the tags are st-raightened out to permit their withdrawal from the slot o2 in the flange and in order to facilitate the removal of the heel l by sliding rearwardly holes b3 may be provided in the flange Z2 in suitable positions whereby a punch or other tool may be applied against the liront part ot the heel cZ- todrive the latter oli'. Furthermore, in order to facilitate the application of the heel into position, the slots d in the heel (Z may be enlarged or tlared outwardly at the front end,as indicated in Figure 3.
The tags e may be secured to the heel Z by providing them at their rear part with downwardlyextending serrated flanges e or the like which are driven into the leather or other material of which the upper part ot the hecl CZ is made. rllhe heel Z may be made in one piece ot leather, rubber, metal or other suitable material, or, as shown in the drawings,
Lessen may be made olf two or more superimposed layers nailed or otherwise secured together to form an integral part.
It will be understood that the invention is not limited to the construction hereinbefore described. For example, the downwardly cxtending tlange Z2 of the base plate I) may be provided at the rear or at the rear and sides and may be curved or shaped to the contour of the heel, in which case the heel (I is applied in position by Isliding rearwardly. Furthermore, the tags e may be otherwise disposed and may be adapted to be bent laterally to engage with or against the outer or trout vface ot' the flange 0'; while in place ot' lju-oviding the ribs or bars e upon the heel litt or other corresponding part, they may be provided upon the detachable heel, the undercut slots being provided in the heel lil't.
In a slightly modified construction, the base plate Z) may be slightly smaller than the lift a and may be recessed therein so as to leave an upstanding non-mctallic margin and thus to avoid the apparance of any metal a i the sides or rear ol the heel and to provide only a simple line joint between the parts (L and (l.
It will be obvious that the present, invern tion is applicable to the soles of boots and shoes as well as to the heels thereof as parti cularly described.
that I claim is A shoe heel having upper and lower sertions, a plate secured against the under tace ot' the upper heel section and havingI a, depending portion at its front edge constituting an abutment and formed with an opening, a longitudinally extending rib depending,r t'rom the plate between the abutment and the rear end of the plate and dovetailed in rmss set'- tion, the lower heel section having a longit udinally extending groove opening through it s front edge lace and dovetailed in cross .seetion to snugly receive the rib, and a Fastener having an attaching portion secured against the upper tace oit the lower heel .sert ion and a tongue projecting toiwvardly and passed through the opening` in said abutnunt and bent into clinching engagement with the front face thereof.
In testimony whereof l. have hereunto signed my name.
