Application filed September This invention relates to a measuring maehinc, designed primarily for the measuring of batter and candy, but it is to be understood that a machine, in accordance with this invent on may be employed for any purposes for which it is found applicable, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine of the class referred to for expeditiously measuring and discharging desired quantities of batter or candy, as well as for eliminating waste in all molded baked products and in candy making.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a machine of the class referred to including means whereby the quantity of batter or candydischarged can be conveniently controlled.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a measuring machine for the purpose referred to which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly ei'licient in its use, conveniently operated, readily assembled, adjustable, and comparatively inexpensive to set up.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement ofparts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to 'which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

The supporting structure or stand includes a standard 1 which has its lower end extended into a base2 and fixedtherewith by a set screw 2.

Mounted on the standard 1, between the collars 9 and 11, is a sleeve 13 which is capable of being revolved on the standard 1 and is provided intermediate its ends with a tubular offset portion 14 disposed at right angles with respect to the standard 1. The sleeve 13, is provided in its periphery, at its upper end with a circumterentially extending-recess 15, into which extends the lug 12,
and the end walls of the recess 15 arrest in' either direction the shafting movement of the sleeve 18. jlv ilounted in the tubular extension 14, and capable of being adjusted length wise with respect thereto, is asupporting arm 16, which is maintained in its adjusted position, by a set screw 17. Oneend of the arm 16 is flattened and of circular contour, as indicated at 19, and seated thereon is the circular outer end 20 of an inclined arm 22, which is integral with and projects from one corner of a yoke-shaped bracket 23, having its arms indicated at 21,25 .and 26. The arms and26 are formed integral at one end with the ends of the arm 24 and the free end of the arm 25, as well as the arm 26, is formed with a socket 27 having a threaded wall. The arms 25 and 26 are connected together, at'their free ends, by a combined supporting and coupling bar 28, having its ends mounted on threaded bolts 29, which are anchored in the sockets 27. The construction and arrangement of the ele ments of the'supporting structure or stand provide for vertically adjusting the body portion 31, and further provide for the mov ing of the body portion 31 away and towards the standard 1 when desired. The body portion 31 of the machine, is in the form of a hopper, and includes end walls 33, 34, side walls 35, 36, a bottom 37 inclining downwardly from each side wall and provided with a lengthwise extending rectangular opening 38 of material less width than the width of the bottom and of a length to terminate at a point in proximity to each of the end walls of the body portion 31. The bottom 37 is'formed with a depending, rectangular flange 39 which is co-extensive with andhas its inner side form a continuation of the wall of the opening 38. The body portion 31 is provided on its periphery, at its top, with a lateral flange 40, coextensive with the side and end walls of the body portion, seats on the bracket 23 and bar 28, as shown clearly in Figure 2, and provides for the suspending of the body portion by the supporting structure or stand.
Positioned below the opening 38 and extending across the same horizontally and longitudinally thereof is a housing 41 pro vided with a pair of lengthwise extending pump chambers 42, 43. The housing 41 is flanged. at its top, as at 44, and the flanges 44- are secured. by hol'dfast devices 45 against the flange 39. The housing 41 is of greater length than the length of the body portion 31, and is formed at its top with a pair of lengthwise extending spaced slots 46, 47, the former opening into the chamber 42 and the latter into the chamber .43. The chambers 42, 43 open at eaohend of the housing and the latter has its bottom provided with two spaced sets of nipples 48, 49 and each nipple extends from a cavity 50, of V-shaped cross section, which opens into a pump chamber. At each end of each set of nipples the housing 41 is provided with an air discharge opening or port and the said opening or port at one end of the set of nipples is indicated at 51 and at the other end of the set of nipples is indicated at 52.
Mounted in the chamber 42 is a pump cylinder 53 and positioned in the chamber 43 is a pump cylinder 54. Each o'tsaid cylinders is formed with two spaced diametrically opposed sets of openings and with theopenings of each set longitudinally spaced relatively to each other. One set of openings is indicated at 55 and the other set at 56. The sets are arranged 180 apart and the openings of the set 55 are alternately disposed with respect to the openings of the set 56. The
cylinders is a closure plug 60 provided with a flange 61. Secured in the other end of the pump cylinder 42, is a plug 62 provided with an extension 63 having a smooth portion 64 and a threaded portion 65. Secured in the other end'of the pump cylinder 53 is a plug 66 provided with a flange 67 at its outer end. The pump cylinder 43 is of greater length than the pump cylinder 42andprojects from one end of the housing 41, see Figure 3. The plug 60, eXteriorl-y' of the flange 61 is formed with a peripherally threaded extension 68. Each of the plugs is formed with an axial opening which extends entirely therethrough and each of the partitions 59 is also provided with an axial opening. The openings in said plugs are indicated at 69 and the openings in the partitions at 70. A partition 59 associates with each plug 60 to provide a piston chamber 71. A partition 59 associates with the plug 62 to provide a piston chamber 72 and a partition 59 associates with the plug 66 to provide a piston chamber 7 3. The partition 59 which associates with the plugs are the outer partitions of said sets and the remaining partitions of said sets associate to provide piston chambers 74. An opening 55 and an opening 56 providesa combined intake and discharge for a piston chamber 74. An opening 55 provides a combined intake and discharge for a piston chamber 71 and an opening 56 provides a combined intake and discharge for a piston chamber 73. An opening 51 associates with an opening 57 to provide an air discharge for a piston chamber 71 and an opening 52 associates with an opening 58 to provide an air discharge for a piston chamber 7 3. The partitions 59 provide means for separating the openings 55 and 56 from each other.
Extendingthrough the pump cylinder 42, as well as projecting from each end thereof is a pump rod 74 which also projects from the plugs 60 and 62. The pump rod 7 4 extends through the openings 69 and formed in the plugs and partitions within the cylinder 42. Extending through the pump cylinder 43, as well as projecting from each end thereof is a pump rod 75 and which also projects from a plug 60 and the plug 66. The pump rod 7 5 extends through the openings 69 and 70 formed in the plugs and partitions arranged in the pump cylinder 43. Carried by each pump rod, as well as being fixedly secured therewith is a seriesotf spaced plungers 76 for expelling the batter or candy supplied from the hopper chambers. The batter candy is discharged through the nipples 4:9. Theopenings 51, 52 are vent openings. A cavity or recess 50 is common to the piston chamber 71 and. a piston chamber 74, and a cavity or recess 50 is also common to a piston chamber 74 and the piston chamber 73. The other cavities or recesses 50, each of which is common to a pair of piston chambers 74. The batter or candy which is discharged from a piston chamber first passes through a cavity or recess 50, see Figure 3, before discharge through a nipple.
The pump rods 74' and 75 are shifted in unison lengthwise with respect to the. pump cylinders. The pump cylinders are simultaneously turned for intake and discharge, with respect to the slot 46 or 47 and discharge nipples 49. A handle element is employed for not only shifting the pump rods in unison but also for turning the pump cylinders 180 in unison.
Secured to the plug 66 is a pair of guide arms 77 upon which is mounted a slide block 78, which is fixedly secured to one end of the pump rod 75 as at 78. The block 78 is termed with a pair of spaced apertured ears 80, between which extends a lever arm 81, pivoted between its transverse median and its lower end on a pin 82 carried by the ears 80. The upper end of the lever arm has connected therewith a handle member 83, and the lower end is pivotally connected to a link 8%, carried by a depending arm 85 formed integral with the plug 66. The link 84 is pivotally connected to the lower end of the arm 85. By moving the lever arm 81 towards and from the body portion 31, the rod 75 will be reciprocated, and which in turn will rec.ipro' cate the pump rod 74:, as the latter is coupled to the rod 7 5, by a coupling connection 86, see Figures Qand 7.
Fixed to the plug 66, is a gear 87, which meshes with a gear 88 secured to the plug 62. By this arrangement when the lever 81 is turned, the gear 87 will be carried therewith, which meshing with the gear 88 will revolve the pump cylinder 42. hen the gear 87 is shifted, the pump cylinder {t3 will also be revolved. This permits of the openings 55 being-shifted from intake to discharge posit-ion and the openings 56 from discharge to intake position.
For limiting the stroke of the pump rods 74:, 75, an eccentric 90 is provided which coacts with the coupling connection 86 for arresting the shitting movement thereof in one direction. The eccentric 90 is carried by support 91, mounted on an adjustable rod 92, which extends through the connection 86 and is a-djustably connected with the housing 91 by set screws 93. The support 91 is provided with a releasable retaining means 9% for the eccentric 90, and said means will maintain the eccentric 90 in its adjusted position relative to the adjustableconnection 8t The machine is operated in the following manner: The batter or candy is placed in the body portion or hopper 31 and the handle turned to the vertical position as shown in Figure 1. One set of openings in the pump cylinders will line up withthe slots in the upper part of the housing 41, thus permitting batter or candy to be supplied to the pluger or piston chambers of the pump cylinder. away from the hopper and the plungers squeeze the measured butter or through the nipples into moulds or pans. While the machine is discharging it is also charging as is shown in the drawing. will be observed that each pump cylinder has two rows of openings and which are are ranged at 180 apart. Although the machine is shown as set up with a pair of pump cylinders, yet it is to be understood that the number of pump cylinders can be increased it desired. The openings 51, 52, 57, 58 provide for the passage of air from the pump cylinders.
It is thought the many advantages of a batter and candy measuring machine, in ac cordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

1. A machine for the purpose set forth comprising a housing providing a pump chamber, a revoluble pump cylinder extending lengthwise of and through said chamber, a series of spaced partitions secured within said cylinder and providing a series 01' cham- .bers, said cylinder having two opposed,
spaced sets of longitudinally spaced combined intake and discharge openings, the openings of one set being alternately disposed with respect to the openings of the other set and with an opening of each of said sets common to a chamber, said housing having its top formed with a supply slot common to a set of openings, a pump rod extending through said cylinder and carrying spaced, fixed plungers eachoperating in one of the chambers in the pump cylinder, plugs mounted in the ends of the pump cylinder and through which extends said pump rod,
means connected to one of said plugs for revolving said cylinder and for reciprocating said pump rod, said housing having its bottom formed with a set of spaced cavities each for alternate registration w th an opening of each set of openings, and a discharge nipple leading from each cavity.

A machine for the purpose set forth comprising a pair of revoluble measuring devices each formed with a plurality of measuring parts, each of said devices further formed with two diametrically spaced sets of longitudinally spaced combined intake and discharge openings, an opening of each of said sets being common to a measuring part, a housing for supporting said devices and provided with a supply slot for each of said devices, an expelling means extending through each of said devices, means for connecting the expelling means of one device to the expelling means of the other device, a gear connection between said measuring devices, said housing formed in its bottom with two spaced sets of longitudinally spaced cavities, each cavity common to an opening of each set of a pair of sets of openings, a discharge nipple leading from each cavity, and means connected with one of said devices to provide for the simultaneous shitting of said pair oi? expelling means and for simultaneous- 1y revolving said devices.
8. A machine for the purpose set forth comprising a pair of revoluble measuring devices each formed wit-h a plurality of measuring parts, each of said devices further formed with two diametrically spaced sets of longitudinally spaced combined intake and discharge openings, an opening of each of said sets being common to a measuring part, a housing for supporting said devices and provided with a supply slot for each of said devices, an expelling means extending through each of said devices, means for connecting the expelling means of one device to the expelling means of the other device, a gear connection between said measuring devices, said housing formed in its bottom with two spaced sets of longitudinally spaced cavities, each cavity common to an opening of each set of a pair of sets of openings, a discharge nipple leading from each cavity, means connected with one of said devices to provide for the simultaneous shifting of said pair of expelling means and for simultaneously revolving said'devices, and said housing and said devices having coactingmeans to provide for the exhaust of airfrom the ends of said devices.

A. machine for the purpose set forth comprising a pair of revolub'le measuring devices each formed with a plurality of measuring parts, each of said devices further formed with two diametrically spaced sets of longitudinally spaced combined intake and discharge openings, an opening of each of said sets being common to a measuring part, a housing for supporting said devices and provided with a supply slot for each of said devices, an expelling means extending through each of said devices, means for connecting the expelling means of one device to the expelling means of the other device, a gear connection between said measuring devices, said housing formed inits bottom with two spaced sets of longitudinally spaced cavities, each cavity common to an opening of each set of a pair of sets of openings, a-discharge nipple leading from each cavity, means connected wit-hone, of said devices to provide lorthe simultaneous shifting of said pair of expelling means and for simultaneously revolving said devices, and means connected to and projected from the housing for limiting the stroke of said expellingmeans.

A machine for the purposes set forth comprising a pair of revoluble measuring devices each formed with a plurality of measuring parts, each of said devices further formed with two diametrically spaced sets of longitudinally spaced combined intake and dis charge openings, an opening of each of said sets being common to a measuring part, a
housing for supporting said devices and provided with a supply slot foreach of said de vices, an expelling means extending through each of said devices, means for connecting the expelling means of one device to the'expelling means of the other device, a gear connection between said measuring devices, said housing formedin its bottom with two spaced sets of longitudinally spaced cavities, each cavity common to an opening of each set of a pair of sets of openings, a dischargenipple leading from each cavity, means connected with one of said devices to provide for the simultaneous shifting of said pair of expelling means and for simultaneously revolving said devices, said housing and said devices having coacting means to provide for the exhaust of air from the ends of said devices,
and means connected to and projected from the housing for limiting the stroke of said expelling means.

A machine for the purpose set forth comprising a pair of revoluble measuring devices each formed with a plurality of measuring parts, each of said devices further formed with two diametrically spaced setsot longitudinally spaced combined intake and discharge openmgs, an opening 0t each oi sald sets being common vto a measuring part, a
,each'of said devices, means for connecting the expelling means of one device to the expelling means oft-he other device, a gear conmotion between said measuring devices, said housing formed in its bottom with two spaced sets of longitudinallyspaced cavities, each cavity common to an opening of each set of a pair of sets of openings, a discharge nipple leading from each cavity, means connected with one of said devices to provide for the simultaneous shifting of said pair of expelling means and for simultaneously revolving said devices, and vertical, horizontal and angular adjusting means for said housing and further for suspending the latter.
12. A machine for the purpose set forth comprising a pair of revoluble measuring devices each formed with a plurality of measlongitudinally spacedv combined intake and two spaced sets of longitudinally spaced cavities, each cavity common to an opening of each set of a pair of sets of openings, a discharge nipple leading ,irom I each cavity, means connected with one of said devices to provide for the simultaneous shifting of said. pair of expelling means and for simultaneously revolving said devices, said housing and said devices having coacting means to provide for the exhaust of air from .the ends of said devices, and vertical, horizontal and. angular adjusting means for said housing and further for suspending the latter.
