J. W. DONOVAN CARD GAME Sept; 4, 1928. 1,683,026
Filed April l6, 1928 fii'f' F49 a 1* r N K i x l l I I Inventor 170/22 flfiwzo van/ A Attarngy Patented Sept. 4, 1928 UNITE STATES.
JOHN WILLIAM DONOVAN, 0F S'UNBURST, MONTANA,
CARD 1 Application filed April 16, 1928. Serial No. 270,364.
The present invention relates to card games and has for its principal object to arrange a representation of an animals foot print upon the face of each of the cards and including cards having the representation thereon of both the fore and hind feet of the more commonly known animals and compiling suitable rules for playing the game so that each player will be required to match up the proper cards in sets in accordance with the characteristics of the foot prints of a particular animal.
A further object of the invention is to provide a game of this character in which the players are educated in the knowledge of the particular characteristics of the foot prints of the more commonly known animals of the animal kingdom.
A still further object is to provide a card game of this character which is amusing, educational and entertaining in its nature and which also permits of the employment of a wide variety of methods or systems in the playing of a card game.
111 the drawing; wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a group of cards embodying one form of the invention;
Figures 1 and 2 represent cards having a foot print shown thereon of the fore and hind feet respectively of one type of animal,
Figures 3 and 4 represent cards havingsimilar foot prints of another type of animal and Figures 5 and 6 represent cards having similar foot prints of athird type of animal.
Referring now to the drawing in detail I provide a deck of playing cards of a type shown at 5, the deck consisting of any desired number of cards and upon the face of each of which is printed, stamped, or otherwise displayed, a foot print shown generally at 6 representing the print of one of the feet of the animal.
The cards include individual cards having the foot print of each fore foot of the animal as well as individual cards having the foot print of each hind foot thereof, the upper row of cards shown on the drawing illustrating one of the fore feet of certain animals and the lower row of cards having foot prints of one of the hind feet of such animals.
It will be noticed from an inspection of the drawings that the characteristics of the fore feet of the animal indicated at 6, differ materially from the hind feet thereof, shown at 7 of each individual animal. By reason of such difference in the characteristics in the respective feet of the animal, as well as in the various animals themselves, it Will be apparent that by becoming familiar with such characteristic the player will be able to identify a'particular animal by certain characteristics of the foot print. I
If desired, when the cards are used for teaching children to identify the particular animals, a picture of the animal, represented by a particular foot print, may also be printed on the face of the card together with the foot print.
It is also to be understood that the foot prints of birds maybe substituted for those of the animals for playing the game in the same manner. Any desired rules may be compiled or systems employed in playing the game, a practical method being to shuffie the deck of cards and deal the same to the respective players who will then draw from each other, in regular order, or from a portion of the deck, not originally dealt to the players, with a view of matching up the cards in sets or books, such sets or books consisting of the group of cards necessary to show a representation of the foot print of each foot of a. particular animal.
It will be apparent that through the playing of the game in this manner the players will soon familiarize themselves with the characteristics of the foot prints of the various commonly known animal either domestic or Wild, and thus improve their knowledge with respect thereto.
It is obvious that my invention is susceptible to various changes and modifications in construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.
' Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
1. A card game comprising a deck of cards of a predetermined number, each card having a space provided with the representation of the foot prints of one of the feet of an animal, said cards including a series of complete sets of cards, each set corresponding in number with the feet of a particular animal and each card of each set having the representation of one of the foot prints of such animal thereon and combining upon being properly matched with the remaining cards of the set to complete said set.
