A. 'r. BRUNKOW EXTRACTING TOOL Filed June 25, 1927 Inventor fiamaoriz Attorney Patented Sept. 4, 1928.
UNITED STATES ALMON '1. BRUNKOW, OF DULUTH, KANSAS.
EXTRACTING TOOL.
Application filed. June 25,
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tools for extractingnails, spikes, bolts, pump casings, etc., and aims to provide a highly novel, simple and ellic1enti ly functioning tool of this character wherein nails, spikes or the like may be quickly extracted and this regardless of whether or not the heads are broken therefrom.
In carrying out the present invention there is provided a tool consisting of an elongated handle having a fulcrum head thereon and with which head is associated a claw bar that may be readily adjusted to nails, spikes or the like of varying diami eters, and wherein the claw bar may be tightly engaged with the nail or other article being extracted so that when the tool is locked there will be little or no liability of the same slipping from the article. Furthermore, by
) reason of a structure of this character claw bars of various sizes may be employed dependent upon the particular article to be extracted.
In the drawing wherein like reference 3 characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved tool as actually in use.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof, the
handle being partially broken away, and
Figure 3 is a perspective of the claw bar, per se.
Now having particular reference to the drawi ig, designates a handle of predetermined length equipped at one end with a head 6 of rounded contour at its front surface to permit the same to be rocked in an obvious manner.
One .end of this head 6 is sharpened as at 7 and may be formed with a V-shapcd notch, not shown within which the nail, spike or other article being pulled is to be engaged, as in Figure 1.
At tl e point of connection to the handle 5 said head 6 is provided with a shank 9 while through the shank directly at the back side of the head there is formed an opening.
10 parallel to the longitudinal axis of the head which hole is provided for receiving 0 the elongated threaded shank 1.1 of a claw 12.
The edge of this claw bar that will have engagement with the nail, spike or other article is sharpened as at 13 and bifurcated intermediate its side edges as at 14.
For facilitating the drawing of the claw 1927. Serial No. 201,433.
claw articles of different diameters may be withdrawn and furthermore in the event the heads are broken from the nails or spikes they may nevertheless be withdrawn by reason of the fact that the claw and head may 7 be wedged into the shank of the nail or spike.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. In an extracting tool of the character described, a handle lever, a head arranged upon one end of the lever, the front ace of said head being of rounded formation to permit the same to be rocked, one end of said head being sharpened for engaging the member to be extracted, a claw member for cooperation with the sharpened edge of the head for engaging the opposite side of said member, and means whereby the claw may be adjustably rigidly secured to the tool in predetermined spaced relation with respcct to the sharpened edge of said head.
2. In an extracting tool of the character described, a handle lever, a head arranged upon one end of the lever, the front face of said head being of rounded formation to permit the same to be rocked, one end of said head being sharpened for engaging the member to be extracted, a claw member for cooperation with the sharpened edge of the head for engaging the opposite side of said member, and means whereby the claw may be adjustably rigidly secured to the tool in predetermined spaced relation with respect to the sharpened edge of said head, said means consisting of a threaded shank associated with said claw and adapted for arrangement through an opening in the handle in back of said head and a thumb nut threaded upon the stem, all in a manner and tore. purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALMON T. BRUNKOW.
