UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAWRENCE F. OTTEN, OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO THE WADSWORTH WATCH CASE COMLPAN Y, OF DAYTON, KENTUCKY, A CORPORATION OF KENTUCKY.
BELT LOOP FOB CHAINS.
Applicatior filed June 1, 1926. Serial No. 112,947.
My invention relates to means for attaching a chain to a belt for personal wear and more particularly for a chain attached to a watch.
The objects of m invention are to improve and simplify such elt loops to secure greater economy in construction, efficiency and durability in use, security as a holding means and convenience in attaching and detaching.
My invention consists in providing a belt loop of precious and other metal hav ng spring or resilient qualities and comprising a substantially fiat rear plate having an up turned flange and having an integrally formed spaced apart front late with an inturned flange provided wit a downwardly extending nib adapted to detachably engage said upturned flange and havlng chain attaching means secured to said inturned flange.
My invention also consists in the pecuhar construction, combination, location and arrangement of the several parts, as herein set forth and claimed.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the belt-loop when closed;
Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the belt-loop taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is an end view in open position;
Fig. 5 is an end view when closed;
Fig. 6 is a perspective view in closed position shown partly in section; and
Fig. 7 is a view of the belt-loop in closed position mounted upon a portion of the belt and having a chain attached.
In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated and which shows a preferred construction, I rovide a belt-loop for chains made of resilient metal and preferably of precious metal or a non-precious metal plated with precious metal. Said belt loop 1 comprises back plate or leaf 2, which constitutes the rear portion of the loop, and is provided with an upwardly bent flange 3 at its lower end 4. Said leaf 2 is integrally united with the front plate or leaf 5 by an intermediate portion 6, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 6. Front leaf 5 is provided at its lower end 7 with an integral inturned flange 8, the end of which terminates in a downwardly depending nib 9. Holes 10 centrally disposed in inturned flange 8 receive a staple or double U-shaped hook 11 which is adapted to receive one end of chain 12. The front leaf 5 has an upset portion 13 which is surrounded by a marginal inbent flange 14'. This is accomplished by dies and punch presses and gives the center portion 13 of the front leaf 5 a raised appearance, thereby making a belt loop that is not only pleasing in appearance but of stronger the belt. To detach the loop from the belt,
merely reverse the operation by holding the lower end of leaf 2 with one hand and pulling outwardly upon the lower end of front leaf 5 with the other hand, whereupon the parts are detached and pulled upwardly.
WVhile I have shown a particular construction, the invention is capable of modification without departing from its scope or spirit as defined in the claims.
lrVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A belt-loo adapted to transversely and slidably em race a belt and formed of resilient metal and comprising a rear plate having an upturned flange upon its free end and having a front plate integrally connected to said rear plate and spaced apart therefrom to form a belt receiving opening and provided with an inturned flange having a downwardly extending nib on its free end adapted to be sprung into detachable holding engagement with said upturned flange and to form a close fit therewith and with the inner adjacent wall of the rear plate.
2. A belt-loop adapted to transversely and slidably embrace a belt and formed of resilient metal and comprising a flat rear plate having a flanged hook on its free end and having a front plate integrally connected thereto and spaced apart therefrom in substantially parallel relation thereto and havthe loop can be ing its central part dished outwardly and provided with a flange having a nib adapted to be sprung into detachable connection with said flanged hook and rear plate.
5 3. A belt-loop adapted to slidably embrace a belt and formed of resilient metal comprising a rear plate having an upturned hook on its free end and a front plate integrally connected thereto and having an inturned flange With a downwardly projecting 10 nib adapted to detachably engage said hook and having chain attaching means on said inturned flan c.
