COMBINATION DISPLAY AND SHIPMENT BOX.

Application filed July 5, 1927.

The invention relates to a combination display and shipment box. 1 The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of combination display and shipment boxes and to provide a simple, practical and efficient combination display and shipment box of inexpensive construction adapted to be packed, shipped and stored in the ordinary manner and capable of being set up on a show case, counter or other place in display position and of displaying its contents.

A further object of the invention is to provide acombined display and shipment box of this character having means for suportin in an inclined osition similar to an easel and capable of presenting a relatively inclined lower face to the supporting-surface so as to fit flat against the same when the combined display and shipment box is arranged in such inclined display position.

Another object ofthe invention is to provide a combination shipment and display box having an extended front wall of greater width and length than the body of the box for facilitating an effective display and advertisement of the contents of the box.

It is also an object of the invention to provide means for supporting and bracing the extended portions of the front wall of the box so that they will not be easily broken or marred and will detract from the display appearance of the box. I

\Vith these and other objects in view. the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention the combined shipping and display box is formed from a blank consisting of a single sheet or piece of pasteboard, cardboard or analogous material. The blank con'iprises a back 1,

These flaps are folded downwardly and outwardly to a position at right angles to the plane of the side walls of the box and they have longitudinal extensions 19 which with the longitudinal flaps and 16 are secured by adhesive material to the inner face of an extended front wall 20 connected with the longitudinal flap 16, a crease line 21 being formed atthe juncture of the lap 10 and the front wall 20 to form a hinge joint.

The front wall '20 wihch is of greater width and length than the back or bottom of the box is provided with spaced longitudinal openings 22 arranged to display the contents of the box and forming a. separating longitudinally disposed portion The openings are preferably enlarged at the bottom at by segmental end extensions presenting an ornamental appearance and facilitating the removal of the goods from the box. The upper extended portion 25 of the front wall .20 is straight and in the same plane as the body portion of the front wall being designed to present an ornamental extension of the top of the front wall and to provide for advertising and other display material indicating the origin and contents of the box. The lower end of the front wall 20 is provided with a flap 26 arranged at an acute angle to the front wall of the box and extending upwardly and rearwardly from the frontwall when the latter is in vertical posi tion. This enables the angularly related extension which is disposed at an angle to the lower end wall to form a flat supporting face when the body of the box is placed in inclined position similar to an easel as illustratcd in Fig. l of the drawing. The lower angularly disposed flap 26 is provided with a central tongue 27 which is passed through a slot 28 in the crease line defining the end wall 5 and the bottom or back 1. The tongue is secured by adhesive to the inner face of the bottom wall or back and firmly holds the angularly related supported base in proper position to present a flat surface to the supporting surface upon which the combined shipment and display box is placed when the box is in display position.

This box is designed to contain bars of confectionary or similar material which as is the usual practice is arranged in two layers as indicated in dotted lines at 29 and 30 and partitions members 31 having inner abutting flaps or flanges 32 are provided for separating the layers. The crease lines 13 of the flaps at and 5 cause the same to proje'et inwardly and to be otl'set from the transverse flaps 7 and 8 a sufficient distance to engage the end portions of the partition members and hold the same upon the inner or bottom layer of goods. This will facilitate the handling of the goods while displaying the same and the inneror bottom layer will be covered until the top or outer layer is sold or otherwise disposed of.

The box is supported in display position by an easel member formed of a blank and consisting of a single piece of cardboard, pasteboard or similar material provided with parallel longitudinal crease lines 33 which define a central attaching section 34 and side wings 35 which are preferably tapered as shown and which have lower angularly disposed edges 36 corresponding to the angle or inclination of the bottom flap 26 of the front wall and arranged in alignment with the same when the wings are turned outwardly for arranging the easel member in position for supporting the box in display position. The wings are locked in their extended position by means of a flap 3'? formed integral with the easel blank by cutting the material of the same from the central section and the wings which provide recesses 38 in the wings to receive a. locking flap 37 when the same is swung downwardly to the position illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The wings are pro vidcd at the recesses 38 with shoulders 39 which limit the downward swing of the locking flap and the latter is provided with slots 40 located at opposite sides of the center and arranged in pairs to form tapered recesses to receive the inner edges of the wings. The shoulders 39 support the locking flap in its locking position. The wings fold fiat against the back of the box when the box is arranged for shipment or storing and may be readily unfolded when it is desired to display the contents of the box.

Vvhat is claimed is 1. A combination display and shipment box including a back, side and end walls and a front wall having a bottom extension arranged in the plane of the front wall and provided with an inclined flap arranged at an angle to the lower end wall of the box and connected with the same at the back thereof to form a flat lower edge face when the box is arranged as an easel in display position.

2. A combination display and shipment box including a back, side and end walls and a. front wall having a bottom extension arranged in the plane of the front wall and provided with an inclined flap arranged at an angle to. the lower end wall of the box and provided with a tongue extending interiorly of the box and secured to the same.

3. A combination display and SlllPll'lClli. box including a back, side and end walls and a front wall having a bottom extension arranged in the plane of the front wall and provided with an inclined flap arranged at an angle to the lower end wall of the box and provided with a tongue extending through the end wall at the juncture of the same and the back and secured to the inner and secured to and reinforced face of the back, a slot being formed at the juncture of the back and such end wall for the said tongue.

4. A combination display and shipment box including a back, side and end walls and having'inwardly extending transversely disposed interlocked flaps and provided with outwardly extending longitudinal flaps ar ranged at right angles to the side walls, end walls having inwardly extending flaps interlocked with the transverse flaps, and a front wall formed integral with one of the longitudinal flaps and folded over the same by thesaid longitudinal flaps.

5. A combination display and shipmentbox including a back, side and end walls and having inwardly extending transversely disposed interlocked flaps and provided with outwardly extending longitudinal flaps extending from the side walls at right angles to the same and provided with longitudinal extensions, end walls secured to the transverse flaps and a front wall formed integral with one of the longitudinal flaps and being of greater width and length than the box and folded over and secured to the longitudinal flaps and the extensions thereof.

6. A combination display and shipment box including a back, side and end walls and having inwardly extending transversely disposed interlocked flaps and longitudinal flaps extending outwardly from the side walls at right angles to the sameandprovided with longitudinal extensions, end walls secured to the transverse flaps and a front wall formed integral with one of the longitudinal flaps and being of greater width and length than the box and folded over and secured to the longitudinal flaps and the extensions thereof, said front wall being provided at the bottom with a flap arranged at an angle to the adjacent end wall of the box and secured to the latter at the back thereof.

7. A combination display and shipment box including aback, side and end walls provided with transverse inwardly extend ing flaps arranged in overlapping interlocked relation, end walls provided with in wardly folding flaps having crease lines and provided with tongues connected with the transverse flaps, the said crease lines permitting the inwardly folding flaps to be offset from the transverse flaps and a front wall and partition members arranged in abutting relation, the partition members being engaged with the opposite portions of the inwardly extended flaps.

8. In combination display and shipment box including a back, side and end walls, a front wall provided at the bottom with a flap arranged at an angle to the lower end wall, and an easel member secured to the back and provided with supporting wings having angularly disposed lower edges arranged in alignment with the angularly disposed fiap when the wings are extended for supporting the box in display position.
