This `intention relates to floor drain .yalves and it hasfor itsfoba'ect toprovide asimple, durable and dependablevalve ywhich will not leak and permit `back .Water ,or sewergas to Ipass.therethrough and which .een blniekly o erated to .open orA .close .the ,ralve a easily isaeeelnbled without .removrng .theeaslng 91, body of the valveftoperrnlt .access-tothe F109? drain ,Vabres are usually `set nowa- (leyelin eementloors on one .endete Sewer `pille endlprovded with ecwater .seal against sewer gas from passing through ,the valve. Ifthe vulve left open vfor asuelent time the natural evaporation Aof `the water, 1S .not replenished, Willjbreak .the seal and allow sewer gas Cto flow into theburldlng. which are spaced apart and do not materially weaken the cores. These cores operate snugly in the seats in the inner and outer plates, but I pack the space 32 between the plates with heavy grease to form an eticotive seal for the valve and to facilitate the operation of the movable parts.
The use of this gr xase makes it unnecessary to machine finish any ot the parts except possibly the seats and cores. I prefer to make the casing and top of cast iron, the inner and outer plates otl brass castings and the cores and arms of brass bars. The plate may be secured as tightly as desired to the inner plate by means of the screws to form an e'licieut closure through the cores, but this adjustment should always be such as to permit the cores to be operated Whenfrequired after opening and closing the valve.
Changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and Without sacrifeing any of the advantages thereof and I reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall Within the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
