1 UNITED STATES RODERICK W. BRYANT, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA RERAILING nnoox.
Application filed December 30, 1926,
The invention relates to re-railing blocks adapted to be disposed adjacent the sides of railroad rails with one side thereof arching the rails and provided with upwardly extending trackways or grooves over which the flanges of the railroad wheels roll, to a position where said wheels will be disposed on the rails with the flanges of the wheels in engagement with the inner sides of the treads of the rails.
A further object is to provide the blocks with apertured lugs on their outer sides through which apertures spikes may be driven into the cross ties for preventing longitudinal movement or displacement of the blocks as the wheels of the derailed car are forced up the incline of the block.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what s claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a. port1on of a railroad track showing the blocks applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a Vertical transverse sectional view through one of the blocks. 1
Figure 3 is a top plan View of one of the blocks. 1
Figure 4 is a sideelevation of'one of the blocks.
Figure 5 is a top plan View of the block having a flange guide groove adapted to extend across the rail.
Figure 6 is a side elevation of the block Serial No. 158,018.
derailed and to obviate this difliculty the re-railing blocks a and 5 are provided. The
block 4; as well as the block 5 is provided with an elongated inverted channeled portion 6, which arches the rails 1 and 2 and of the wheel and which groove extends across the upper side of the channeled member 6 to a position adjacent the inner side of the rail 1 where the flange of the wheel will engage the inner side of the rail 1 when the wheel is 011 the rail.
The inclined guide channel 8 at its upper end tern'iinates in a longitudinally disposed flange guide groove 10, into which the flange of the wheel at the opposite side of the car passes and which groove is longitudinally disposed and positioned whereby the wheel will be guided onto the rail 2 and the flange thereof in engagement with the inner side of the rail 2, therefore'it will be seen that V the wheels of a car may be easily and quickly placed on the rails and that special lifting mechanism will not be necessary. The
under sides, of the blocks 4 and 5 are provided with downwardly extending flanges l 11 which rest on the bases 12 of the rails and with additional downwardly extending brace flanges 13 which rest on the ties 3, therefore it will be seen that the blocks are positively braced at all times.
From the above it will be seen that rerailing blocks are provided which may be easily and quickly placed in position on rails, and which blocks are positively braced by the channeled members arching the treads of the rails and positively held against longitudinal movement. It will also be seen the blocks may be cheaply manufactured that they can be cast in a single piece.
The invention having been set forth is claimed as new and useful is A re-railing block disposed adjacent a what rail and on the ends of ties outside of the rail, means for securing said block to said ties, said means comprising apertured lugs for the reception of spikes and positioned to engage adjacent ties, and inverted channeled member arching the rail, an inclined guide groove carried by said block and inclining upwardly, the upper end of said guide groove terminating in a wheel flange reeelv ing groove, said wheel flange receiving groove extending diagonally across the rhanneled member and terminating at the inner side of the rail.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
RODERICK W. BRYANT.
