Another object of the invention is to pro- D vide a milk bottle lock whichembodies sta* tionary and. movable hinged members for gripping the neck ofthebottle, together with novel means for holdingunauthorized personsvfrom disengaging the bottle from the de vice, the construction of the parts being such that the device canbe placedon a door frame and adjacent thedoor so that the part in which the lockingmeans is located, will be arrangedin abutting relation with the door 0 and will be rendered inaccessible when the doorisclosed. f

A further objectfof the invention is to provide a device of this class. embodying the aforesaid bottle engaging members together with novel locking means for said members, which means is inefiective until the bottle is placed in position and is then rendered automatically eflective to hold the members, against separation.

It is another object of the invention toprovide bottle locking devices of this classwhich are such in construction that a number of them can be placed alongside of one another and in abutting relation. as will be hereinafter V better described, whereby each device serves to render the locking means of the other adjacent device inaccessible.

A further object of this invention is to provide a bottle lockingmeans wherein the part that forms the lock pin can also servethe purpose for holding notes to the milkman.

' A further object of this invention is to provide an easily removable lock so that during the day the entire lock will be removed from the door-frame.

Other objectsand advantages of the invention will be apparent during'the course of the following description.

In operation, the slotted plate 21 is atfixed into the door-frame, near enough to with the mechanism when in i place. The lock is slid into the slot 22 by means of bar 6.

If there is no bottle in place the lock is inoperative and the strip with its pin 18 can be turned on the hinge to the position shown in F ig. 5 and used as a holder for notes to the milkman.

\Vhen the milkman comes and reads the note, turns the strip down, inserts the particular grade of milk between the sections and closes the look so that the latch 9 catches the pin 18, since the door 29 is closed, the milk cannot be moved from its place.

Vhen the door 29 is opened the latch 9 can be lifted and the lock opened and milk bottle removed. 1

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have devised a novel and simple device for locking milk bottles which will prevent unauthorized persons from stealing or removing the bottle after it is placed in position in the device by the dcliveryman The parts of the device are in the form of simple castings which can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost and can be retailed to dealers for comparatively small purchase price thus enabling them to furnish the devices free of charge to their consumers. In the end, the dealer will save by using such a device because disputes with the consumers and dealers will be prevented and the dealer will not have to replace the stolen milk as is often the case. lVith the construction of device shown and described, there is little or no danger of any of the parts becoming disarranged or getting out of order and little time is consumed in engaging and disengaging the milk bottle.

Furthermore, the device is applicable to either side of the frame of the closure which is adapted to co-act therewith to render the locking means inaccessible. Other dill'crences of construction distinguishing my device from prior patented and marketed ones used for the same purpose have doubtless been made apparent from the description and drawings and the advantages accomplished by such difi'erences have also been made clear.

Since probably the best results may be obtained with the construction and arrangement herein shown and described, this is taken as the preferred embodiment of the invention. However, I wish it to be understood that minor changes coming within the scope of the invention as claimed may be resorted to if desired.

What I claim is:

A milk bottle locking device comprising a body for attachment to a door-frame to dispose one end thereof in abutting relation with the door, said body including stationary and movable members designed to engage the neck of a bottle, said body having a lock enclosure to be closed by the door, and coacting locking means carried by said members and arranged on said enclosure, being accessible only when the door is opened, one of said locking means being a strip with a pin when downwardly arranged adapted to engage a latch and when upwardly arranged is adapted to receive note.
