.Tliis" invention relates to a trench cover 7 and frame and the object of the invention'is through. the trcnchl to provide a trench: cover and'frame adapted to support a. series. of pipe linesin a trench. One'of'theparticular objects of the inventionis'to provide astrencli cover and frame which may beembedded in afloor' over a trench so that the cover extends flush with. the floor surface the said fra me carrying supports for av series of pipe lines extending Another object of. the invention is to provide a device of the character described in which. the pipe lines may, be readily inserted in or removed from thel'trenchand in which the frame members are spacedapartequally throughout their length. i A further object of the invention is to provide a trench frame which'may beeinbedded ina concrete floor when the floor is laid," the trench frame beingprovided with recesses in which a series of transverse supporting rods may be readily positioned or removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rigid support for the trench cover.-
These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shownin the accompanying drawings in which 7 Fig. 1 is a sect-ion through a floor and trench including a trench cover and frame embodying my invention; 7
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section through the frame members and trench cover.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
4 is a view taken from line Hof Fig. 2.
5 is a section takenon line 5 5 of Fig. 2. f 7
As shown in Fig. 1 a'trench 1 is dug in the ground and is walled un by means of the vertical side walls 2. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the frame members 3 are positioned on top of the walls 2 and each frame membe: 3 is provided with a longitudinal flange 4. This flange 4 as shown in Fig. 4 is notched out at 5 continuously throughout its length but the flange 30 of the frame members is closed. The: frame members 3 'are of a height equal to the thickness of the usual concrete floor and the concrete floor as shown in Fig. 3
1925 Serial No. 39,795.
as" shown inFigs'l and 2 is laid so as to extend flush with the upper edges 6 of the frame members 3. When the floor is laid the concrete is tamped through the notches 5 to iill'the space 7 between the flanges and 4 of thefi-ame members and thus firmly embedthe frame members in the concrete floor. Eaclrframe member 3 as shown in 2 is provided with a longitudinal shoulder or ledge 8 on which the cover 9 is supported and a recess 10 is provided atspaced intervals along the frame member 3 which-opens through the shoulder 8. A loose spreader and hanger bar 11 is positionedin the recesses or notches 10 which are positioned" opposite each other in the two .fraine'members-3 and eachmember 11 forms a support for the hangers1-2 which in turn'supportthe pipe lines13 in the trench.
To hold the frame members 3 in correct spaced' relation each frame member 3 is provided with a notch d at spaced intervals which is recessed at 15 behind the notch and a bolt 16 is positioned in the opposite notches 14 and the enlarged recess 15 allow the nuts 17 on the bolts 16 to be positioned behind the notches 14:. "These nuts 17 may be tightened to support the: frame members and hold them in correct spaced relation while being embedded in the concrete. shown in Fig. 2 is provided with strengthening ribs 18 and as shown in Fig. 5 each cover member 9 is provided with a flange 19 extending beneath and supporting the edge of the succeeding cover member 9. The frame members 3 may also be provided with overlapping ends so that a long trench frame may be easily assembled in this manner. The cover members 9 are made of metal and extending flush with the surface of the concrete floor and may be readily removed to allow access to the pipe lines 18. After the cover members 9 have been removed the pipe lines may be readily removed by removing the bolts 16 and the hanger bars 11. It will The cover 9 as Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is I 1. In trench construction, frame members each adapted to form a side of the trench and to be embedded in concrete each frame having an inner closed flange and an outer notched flange at an angle one to the other,
the frames having the upper edges thereof practically flush, with the concrete surface and formed with a longitudinal shoulder, the. said inner closed fianges'each having a series of recesses extending to adjacent the bottom oft-he flanges and opening through the outer face thereof, a series of hanger bars in therecesses extending transversely of the trench and providing spacers, and bolts extending between the frame members adjacent the upper edge tieing the parts to gether.
' 2. In trench construction, a pair of frame members each. adapted to form a sideof the trench, each frame having an inner closed flange and an outer flange at an angle thereto, the said flanges being embedded in material of which the trench is formed with the upper edge practically flush with the surface thereof, the said upper edge of each 7 frame having a longitudinalshoulder,.a series of recessesin the inner closed flange openingthrou gh the outer face thereof and extending to adjacent the bottom of the beneath a concrete or like floor comprising the combination with the side walls of a trench, of frame "membersmounted on the upper surface of thewallsand providing extensions thereof, ea'clrineniber being provided with a portion embedded in the concrete or, plastic material ofthe floor, .each frame having the upper edgepractically flush with the floor surface and'provided with a longitudinal shoulder and further having a series of recesses opening through:
the shoulder and inner face of the frame,
spacer bars 'niounted inthe recesses and prov dmg supports for a p pe, and a cover formed of removable sections supported at opposite edges on ithe said longitudinal shoulders."
