My invention relates to an improvement in combination fixtures and means for attaching the same to laundry trays and the like, and in general the object of the invention is to provide a combination hot and cold Water fixture having a single discharge spout adapted to swing freely in a complete circle above the edge of a laundry tray or other receptacle containing one or more compartments, or above a plural number of such trays installed end to end or back to back, thereby permitting the said faucet to serve a large number of trays or separate compartments. Further, the fixture and its attachment parts are particularly constructed to facilitate the making of a convenient connection with each other and a tray or set of trays, to promote rigidity between the parts when installed, to relieve the piping and fixture of all strain, and to permit vertical adjustment of the fixture relatively t0 the attachment device and tray whereby roughing-in variations may be taken up and accommodated in installing the device.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view on a reduced scale of the invention installed upon two laundry trays placed back to back. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the fixture and its attachment device. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section and top view on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the clamping parts on line 4 4 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a cross section thereof on line 5 5 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 5a is a similar view on line 5a 5a, of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the main clamping member, and Fig. 7 a perspective View of one of the clamping jaws, and Fig. Y another View thereof from another angle. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of one of the split sealing rings or washers used to seal the hub ends of the rotatable spout.
As shown, my invention comprises a hollow body A of Y-shape, having two vertical extensions 2 2 which are screw-threaded externally to receive a pair of coupling nuts 3 3 for a pair of flanged tail pieces 4 -4. The flanged ends of the tail pieces and the outer ends of the extensions are preferably (but not necessarily) ground joint unions 5 5. The tail pieces are screw-connected with separate hot and cold water service pipes P P and the `body extensions 2 2 contain separate valves V-V to control the separate streams of water. The valves cornprise separate valve seats and openings 6 6 within cross walls 7 7 at the base or juncture of extensions 2 2 with two converging arms or branches 8 8 which unite with and open into a common branch 9 projected downwardly a substantial distance on the vertical medial line of the assembly or structure. Branch 9 is closed at its bottom but provided with a series of slots or openings 10 radially in its side to permit the water to escape freely therefrom, and the passages within arms 8 8 and this branch provide a mixing chamber for the hot and cold water. Each valve comprises a valve stem 11 having a screw-threaded portion 12 in screwconnection with a side extension 14 of body A, and a packing nut 15 encircles the stem which is provided at its outer end with a suitable handle 16.
The downwardly-extending leg or branch 9 is round, and smoothly finished for a part of` its length, beginning at an annular stepped enlargement 17 at its upper end, and the lower end 18 is screw-threaded and terminates in an integral lug or tongue 19 which may be of any desired shape in cross section but shown in the present instance as rectangular or fiat-sided. A discharge spout 20 of any desired length, having a hollow hub 21, is sleeved upon branch 9 and clamped in a sealed rotatable position thereon by a ring packing nut 22, the opposite ends of hub 21 being provided with annular shoulders and recesses 23 to confine and seat suitable sealing washers or gaskets, and preferably split rings or gaskets 24 (as delineated in Fig. 8) to permit their removal and replacement without detaching spout 20 from delivery branch 9. A water distributing chamber 25 is also provided within hub 2l where it encircles the slotted or open zone of branch 9, and the spout is free to rotate in a complete circle underneath the angle valves to deliver the water to any radial point in the circle when the faucet is secured to the pipes P P andl also rigidly attached and anchored to the upper edge or edges of a receptacle such as a laundry tray T. To facilitate that purpose a clamping bracket B having a vertical socket 25 is used to receive the lug or tongue 19 projected downwardly from the faucet, and a set screw 26 is also employed to lock the lug and bracket rmly together after the parts have been `properly adjusted and connected.
As constructed racket B comprises a double set of clamping devices b b adapted to be secured to two compartmented trays T-T placed back to back as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Such trays are usually provided with one or more division walls 27, and when two trays of that kind are placed back to back bracket B is seated upon the top edges of the abutting rear walls of the trays and in Astraddling position relatively to the cross walls 27 with socket. 25 situated approximately centrally in respect to the corners of the four comlmrlments so that spout 2() may swing in a complete circle and discharge the water into either one of the four compartments. To that end two of the clamping elements 28-28 composing part of the bracket are integrally united by a web or bar 29 which is enlarged at its center to provide socket 25', and two separate clamping members 30-30 are detachably connected to said elements 28-28 by means of separate clamping bolts 31. Each clamping element S28-28 comprises a downwardly-extending clamping jaw 32 at its outer end and a round hollow boss 33 at its top together with a pair of rabbeted fingers 34 between which a third rabbeted extension 35 on the companion clamping member 30 or 30 is adapted to slide and be guided on a parallel line with the clamping bolt 31 in clamping and unclamping operations. To promote interlocking and prevent tilting of the clamping elements and members in respect to each other one end portion of each clamping momber 30-30 is rabbeted underneath at its edges and the opposite end portion rabbeted atv its upper edges, and the body of thev clamping elements 28-28 and their fingers 34 are rabbeted to fit, see Figs. 5-5. The detachable clamping members 30-30 are each further provided with a downwardly-extending jaw 36 and a perforated lug 37 for clamping bolt 31, and when the parts are assembled and clamped to the tray the web and socket portion of the bracket provides a very rigid support and connection for body A, although the anchoring stud or lug which is cast integral with the xture body permits adjustment and free movement vertically thereof in installing the device and also in vertical settling movements of the tray. l
As shown body A is made in one piece, but its extensions and branches and valved portions may be made of separate parts or fittings united together in any approved mechanical way, and spout 20 may also be made of one or more parts or pieces.
What I claim is.:
1. A combination fixture, comprising a hollow body having a pair of intake branches adapted to be connected to separate supply pipes, said body also having a delivery branch formed with discharge openings in its side wall and an anchoring extension at its lower end constructed to prevent rotary movement of said body, and a discharge spout sleeved upon said delivery branch and adapted to rotate in a complete circle beneath said intake branches in a horizontal plane above said anchoring extension.
2. A combination fixture, comprising a hollow body having lateral branches provided with valves and means for connecting the same to separate supply pipes', a delivery branch extending downwardly from Said body having side openings and an integral lug at the lower end of said delivery branch, a spout having a chambered hub sleeved rotatably upon said delivery branch, and a bracket to connect said faucet body to a tray by means of said lug. l
3. A combination fixture, comprising separate valves and supply pipe connections, a vertical delivery branch containing side openings and formed with a screw-threaded lower portion terminating in an anchoring extension, a discharge spout sleeved rotatably upon said delivery branch, a clamping nut for said spoilt connected with said screwthreaded portion, and split sealing rings for said spout where sleeved upon said delivery branch adapted to be removed and replaced without removal of said spout.
4. A combinationffixture, comprising a hollow body having separate supply branches containing valves and formed with a downwardly-extending delivery branch having a reduced and shouldered cylindrical part containing a dischargeopening in its side, the lower end of said delivery branch being screw-threaded and terminating in a flatsided extension, a discharge spout having a hub portion containing end recesses and a central discharge chamber adapted to encircle said delivery branch, a clamping. ring nut for said spout, and removable sealing means 'within the recessed ends of said hub, adapted to be held in place by a shouldered portion on said delivery branch and by said clamping nut.
5. A combination ixture, comprising a hollow body embodying valves and having supply pipe connections, including a vertical branch having a discharge opening at its side and an integral extension at its lower end, a discharge spout sleeved rotatably upon said vertical branch, and means for securin said spout in sealed connection with sai branch where sleeved rotatably thereon.
6. A combination fixture, comprising a hollow body having separate supply branches provided with valves and also having a delivery branch provided with a discharge spout mounted to rotate thereon in a horizontal plane, and said delivery branch having an integral lug extending downwardly from its lower end, in combination with a clamping bracket having a socket adapted to receive said lug and rigidly support said fixture against rotatable movement,
said spout being free to rotate in a complete circle above said bracket.
7. A combination fixture, comprising a hollow body having separate supply branches and valves therefor and a single lelivery branch having a discharge spout :onnected therewith adapted to rotate in a complete circle in a horizontal plane, and a bracket having a double set of clamping devices united together in spaced relation and provided with means adapted to connect with and rigidly support the delivery branch of said fixture body against rotatable movement in a lower plane than said rotatable discharge spout.
8. A combination fixture, comprising sepatate valved sup ly branches and a dependlng delivery branc having a discharge spout rotatably connected therewith, said delivery branch having an integral lug of angular cross-section at its lower end, and a bracket having separate sets of tray clamping devices united by a bar having a socket of angular cross-section for receiving and holding said lug.
9. A combination fixture, comprising 4a `1ollow bod embodying valves and having separate in et branches adapted to be con nected to separate su ply pipes, an outlet branch having a disc arge opening in its side, a discharge spout sleeved rotatably upon said outlet branch, said discharge spout having a distributing chamber encircling said outlet branch, and means for securing said spout in sealed connection with said outlet branch.
10. A clamping bracket for a double laundry faucet, comprising a air of clamping elements united by a web aving a vertical rectangularly shaped socket therein, and a clamping member and bolt detachably and adjustably connected with each of said clamping elements, each of said clamping elements having rabbeted guide ways for its clamping member.
11. A clamping bracket for a double laundry faucet, comprising a clamping section having a vertical rectangularly shaped socket therein and rabbeted guide-ways at the bottom' part thereof, and a separate clamping member slidably and screw-connected with said clamping section at each side of said socket.
12. A clamping bracket for a double laundry faucet, comprising a clamping section having spaced clamping jaws and a connecting portion therefor formed with a vertical rectangularly shaped socket centrally between said jaws, and co-acting clamping jaws and means for securing saidA bracket upon the top edge of a laundry tray in straddling relation to a division wall therein, said clamping section including rabbeted guide-ways aligned with said clamping jaws and'said coacting clamping jaws including rabbeted tongue portions cooperating with and guided by said guide-ways of said clamping section.
