IMPROVEMENT IN FARM-FENCES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH E. WINTERS, of Fincastle, Brown county, Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Fence, of which the following is a specification:
- Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my improved fence, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to a permanent fence which may be readily put up and placed on the ground without digging holes for the posts, being adapted to run up hill under any inclination, and being of strong, cheap, and durable construction.
My invention consists of posts which are set by feet, logs, or spikes, on a rock or block, and connected by slats in zigzag or worm shape, for supporting a light straight paling or planking running intermediately between the posts placed in the front and rear of the same.
A represents the fence-post; B, the connect ing-pieces or slats; and O, the longitudinal paling or planking stretched intermediately between the posts.
The posts and connecting-pieces are constructed in a zigzag line or worm, which gives a stable and secure support to the fence with out requiring the tedious and time-consumin g digging of postholes.
The posts rest on the ground either directly or by means of feet, legs, spikes, or pins, bein g placed alternately in the front or rear of the paling G, which is made light and cheap, and of any height required.
The paling or planking is connected to the post-connecting pieces and passes intermediately between the posts across the same.
The fence is strong and durable, quickly made, and readily set up, presenting also a neat and ornamental appearance.
When the fence is to be run up hill, the connecting pieces are applied under corresponding angles to the posts, and the slats of the paling set under the same angle to its longitudinal bearingpieces.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The fence, consisting of two rows of posts, A A, intermediate palings G on stringers G, and zigzag slats B, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
