Description

W. H. WALKER.
Bale-Tie.
Patented Sept. 21,1875.
ATTBBNEYS.
NVFEYERS, FNQYO-LITHOGRAFHE UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. WALKER, OF CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA;
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 167,960, dated September 21,1875; application filed July 31, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W1LLIAM H. WALKER, of the city and county of Charleston, South Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Bale-Tie, of which the following is a specification:
My improved bale-tie consists of a square or approximately square plate, with an opening through the middle suitable for looping the end of the hoop to be permanently attached, and having two arms projecting from end to end along the front face, one at the top and the other at the bottom, said arms being attached to and binding around from opposite ends, and being to confine and fasten the end to be secured after being bound around the bale, the arrangement being such that the hoop can be easily fastened, and can be as,
easily unfastened, withoutdamage either to the tie or hoop, so that they can be used again.
Figure l is a front elevation of my improved tie. Fig. 2 is a section on line a w, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the tie.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the plate, in which'is a central opening, B, through which the end 0 of the hoop to be permanently fastened is looped in the ordinary way, as at D. E and F are the arms projecting along the upper and lower front face of the plate from end to end, said arms being attached to and leading around from opposite ends of the plate, and being to confine and secure the other end G of the hoop by passing it under arm F, looping it over arm E, and then swinging it behind arm F, which confines it. securely, and at the 'same time allows it to be released readily by swinging it back again, so the loop can be readily slipped off from arm E to unfasten the hoop.
I am aware it is not new to construct a baletie buckle with two or more projecting arms, and do not claim such construction.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved bale-tie buckle herein described, the same being constructed of a plate,
A, having central closed slot B, and the bent arms E F, the latter projecting from diagonally-opposite corners of said plate, and in opposite directions, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
WM. H. WALKER. Witnesses:
