CLOTHESPIN.
Application filed February 7, 1928. Serial No. 252,523.
This invention relates to an improved clothes-pin or clip so designed as topresent a smooth surface upon which to apply pressure.
The object of the invention is to provide a clothes-pin which is simple in construction and which will effectually hold the clothes or other objects.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an assembled clothes-pin embodying the principle of the invention; Fig. 2 shows the inner face of one member; Fig. 3 shows a. side view of the other member; Fig. at is an edge View of the spring (in its released position at disassembly).
In the drawing the jaw or member 1 has a transverse groove 2 across the inner face adapted to provide a bearing and guide for a coacting transverse rib 3 on the inner face of the opposite jaw or member 4, said rib 3 adapted to serve as the fulcrum for the lever action involved in the operation of a clothes-pin of this type.
A fiat spring 5 having two acute angle bends 6 surrounds and guards the ends of the two members 1 and 4. Said spring 5 also has the ends 7 thereof bent towards one another to engage in grooves 8 provided on the outer surface of the said two members 1 and 4, at which points the spring applies its pressure. i
The said two members 1 and 4 are provided also with the customary line retaining space 9, object gripping portion 10 and fiar ing mouth 11. A predetermined amount ofopening of the clothes-pin is regulated by the angle at which the heel 12 is chamfered.
When the clothes pin is pressed into the clothes the jaws open against the pressure of the spring 5 which then clamps the clothes between the jaws to serve the purpose of the device. The spring 5 which covers the rear end of the device serves as a finger piece to which pressure may be applied to force the pin onto a line or the like.
I claim:
A clothes pin comprising a pair of wooden jaws one of which has a cross groove in the inner side thereof and the other of which has a cross rib fitting in said groove and forming a pivot, each jaw having a rear end beveled on the inner side behind the pivot to limit the extent of opening of the jaws, and a fiatspring bent around and enclosing the rear ends of both jaws and having its ends engaged with the outer sides of the jaws in advance of the pivot.
