UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. HELMQUEST, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO CALIFORNIA CARD MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAN TION OF CALIFORNIA.
FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORA- PICTURE HOLDER.
Application filed April 6, 1925. Serial Rio/20,889.
This invention relates to picture holders or frames and particularly to such a holder of the easel type. Such a holder includes a picture receiving and holding body portlon and a bracing portion secured at one end to the back of the body portion and adapted to support the holder easel-like in a display position. The object of the invention is to provide an improved picture holder of this type and a simple method of manufaeturmg' such holder.
In the accompanying drawing I have illus.
trated one specific embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that the invention can be otherwise embodied and that the drawing is not to be construed as definingor limiting the scope of the invention, the claim appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.
Referring to the figures of the drawing,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the holder in its displaying position, the same being illustrated as partly broken away;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view there- F through;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of the open end of the holder.
As illustrated in the drawing, the holder comprises a back board 1 and an open-faced front board 2 secured thereto. These two pieces are spaced from each other by strips 3 therebetween. The stripsare pasted to the rear face of the open-faced front board ad-v jacent the edges thereof, in a manner to thereafter receive the back board thereon.
One end of the back board 1 is creased at 4 and preferabl severed at 5 to form a pivoted closure flap 6. A supporting brace 7 is pasted at one end to the rear face of the back board at 8, the opposite end 9 being broad or wide in a manner to firmly support the holder. The free end of the piece 7 is tied to the back board by a folding strip 10 whereb to hold the brace properly spaced from't e holder.
The f ont and back boards are assembled holder and.
by pasting the back board to the rear surface of the strips 3 on the front board, the portions 11 adjacent the flap 6 also being socurely pasted to the strips 3. The flap 6 is then placed in the closed position and the edges of the assembled holder. trimmed to the bevel 12 or any other pattern desired.
In its finished form the holder is adapted to receive a picture therein. The picture is slipped in through the slot 13 formed by the pivoted flap 6. When in position in the holder, the edges of the picture rest in the slot 14 between the front and rear boards, one end of the picture resting against the strip 3. lVhen thus assembled the opening 13 is closed by pasting the flap 6 to the strip 3'. -In this finished position the edge and face of the flap are entirely flush with the very neat in appearance. It will be understood that a glass of any kind can be used in the holder forwardly of the picture if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat-- cut is:
A picture holder comprising an openfaced front boarder frame, a spacer-strip secured on the rear face of the open-faced front board adjacent the edges thereof, a
back board secured around three marginal edges, to said strips, the configuration and dimensions of the back board being the same as the'front board, the unsecured edge of the back board being creased in parallelism with the, edge at a distance from the edge,
said free edge being slitted inwardly short WILLIAM J. HELMQUEST.
