Description
UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
JOHN B. KLINE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOFA-BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,908, dated September 21, 1875; application filed June 19, 1875.
To whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B! KLINE, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Bed-Lounge, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved bed-lounge and durable manner; and the invention consists of a main frame with forward-sliding seat-section, and an upwardswinging supplementary section with hinged head-piece that is carried up and adjusted to the level of the seat-section to form the bed therewith.
In the drawing, A represents the main frame of my improved bed lounge, along whichthe seat-section B with its face partis guided, to he slid forward to suitable stoppins a at both ends, which prevent the disconnection of frame A and section B. A supplementary section, 0, is pivoted to swinging arms D of the main frame, and stored below the seat-section B when the same is pushed in and used as a lounge, section 0 resting in this position on projecting lugs or pins I) of frame A. The arms D are pivoted to frame A, and also at both ends and at opposite sides to section 0, being guided along raised quadrantal pieces d, of such diameter that section 0 may be swung up to a level with the seatsection when the same is drawn out to its full extent. In that position section 0 is locked by a pivoted-or spring catch, 0, at it end, its hinged head-piece 0 being thrown back on the head-piece of frame A, to be supported thereon at the same inclination as the head-piece of seat-section B. The lounge is thus changed to a bed, which is quickly returned to its former condition by releasing the catch of the swinging section, lowering the same down on the supporting lugs or pins of frame A, and then sliding the seat back to its position on frame A. A strong and well-supported lounge or bed is thus obtained, which can be quickly and easily changed from one position to the other.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A bed-lounge composed of a main frame, A, a sliding seat-section, B, and of a supplementary section, C, with a hinged head-piece, 0, arranged within frame A, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of a main frame, having quadrantal side guides and supporting pins or lugs, with a supplementary section swinging on pivoted arms to a level with the drawn-out seat-section, to be looked inthis position, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
