IMPROVEMENT IN coRsETs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,898, dated September 21, 1875 application ii'led July 10, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL H. BORNE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and ImprovedGorset, of which the following is a specication:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 repv resents a perspective view of my improved corset, and Fig. 2 a detail view of the stay-connection with the bosom cups.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish an improved corset, by which the bosom is supported in natural and easy manner without requiring the tight and injurious lacing to sustain the same, and by which a graceful shape is imparted to the body, and a ready yielding to the motion of the same obtained.
The invention consists of a corset with bosom-supporting cups of suitable wire-gauze, which are connected by sockets with the stays.
In the drawing, A represents a corset of any approved style, and B the bosom-cups, which are stamped into the required size and shape from wire-gauze that is selected with special reference for this purpose, so as to combine lightness, coolness, and pliability. The Wire cups B are lined at both sides in suitable manner, and may be, if desired, only temporarily stitched at the upper end, to allow their being taken out for washing the corsets.
The connection of the cups with the stays C is made by small metallic sockets D, into which they are fitted, and, if desired, also stitched thereto.
The stays retain, by the socket-connection, the supporting-cups in position, and allow the wearing of the corset without necessitating the tight lacing required in the present construction of corset.
