PORTABLE SAVINGS BANK.
This invention relates to. portablebanks and deals more specifically with a savings bank adapted. to be carried in a wallet.
It is an object of this invention to provide av portable bank in which the owner can determine by inspection the. amount .of money deposited therein It'isa further objectof this invention. to provide a portable bank which is of minimum. size to carry a predetermined number of coins. 1
Further it is an object of this invention to provide a bank which may be emptied of its contents with a minimum of time. and effort.
And finally it. is. an object. of this invention and cheap to construct, and which is highly efiicient in its operation.
' These and, other objects of the invention will be apparent readily from. the. following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which: V
Figure 1 is'a perspective view'of a bank, showing thedoors open. Figures 1. and l are detail views. I 1
Figure 2 is a front elevation of a modified form of the. invention. H i
Figures 3 and 4 are side elevation and top plan views respectively of the bank shown in Figure 2.
Figures 5 and 6. are sectional views taken on the lines 5--5 of Figure 2 and 66 of Figure 3 respectively.
Figures 7 and 8 are front and endelevational views respectively, of another modification.
Figure 9 shows a detail of the device shown in Figures 7 and 8.
Figures 10 and 11 are front and end ele- Vational views respectively of still another modification.
Figure 12 is a detail view of the device shown in Figures 10 and 11.
Referring in detail to Figurel the bank 10 is seen to comprise a middle partition wall 11 having six longitudinal slots or openings 12 suitably formed to permit one to see the contents of the bank; A.v pair of ends 13 are secured to the wall 11 by soldering, brazing, or by any other suitable means. In order to permit insertion of the coins the slots 14 are provided on one of the ends'13, the slots having suitable dimensions toaccommodate the particular coins for; whiclr the bank is designed.
.Hinged to'thewall, 11. along one longitudinal edge ,thereof iare the side doors 15 arms l3 integral with the wall at. the upper and lowerends thereof as shown in Figures 10 and 12. The doors 15 areprovided with the ears 15 and 15" which are integrally formed therewith and which embrace the arms, 13: as shown in Figure 12,, the ears 15 being formed on one of the doors 1.5. and
the ears 15 being formed on the other door. to provide a. portable bank which 1s simple The members 15 are preferably formed. by a single stamping operation-.9 The ends 17 are bent at right angles. to the main face of the doors thereby providing with the partition wall 11 and its end members 13 two closed compartments. In order to provide separate compartments corresponding substantially to the dimensions of the particular coins for which the bank. is designed, the ribs 18 are; formedon the inside ofthe doors extending substantially the full length thereof. The ribs 18 may alternatively be formed on the opposite faces of the wall 11s the abutting to be lockedby a key. 7 i,
In order to prevent egress of the coins through the slots 14 the detent springs 20 are securedat 21. to the under side of the end 13 in which the slots 14 are formed. The ends of the springs extend underthe slot 14 and may be deflected downwardly Any suitable locking means is provided on ends 17, at19 which is adapted when the coin is pressed through the slots. I Return of the coin is prevented however by upon the other in tangential end to end rela tion. The coins are visible through the slots 12 which serve the additional function of permitting the coins to be pulled lengthwise of the compartment. When it is desired to empty the contents of the bank, the doors are unlocked at 19, spread apart,
All
In Figures 2 and 3 there is shown a modified form of the invention in which a bank similar to the, one described above is formed in two half sections provided with coin compartments as described above. The two halves are hinged at and locked together at 26. The hinges may be suitably formed by stamping two interlocking portions on the adjacent faces, one corresponding to the arm 13 and the other to the ears 15 or 15*. Each of the half sections are formed as shown in the cross-sectional view of Figure 5, the parts being joined together in any manner well known in the art. WVhen it is desired to empty the contents of the bank the sections are unlocked at 26 andbent along the hinges 26. The position of the hinges 26 isso chosenthat they are placed along a line across the bank which passes through the points of contact 01 the coins in the upper half with those in the lower half and it' therefore follows that the coins do not intereferewith the folding of the sections when it is desired to open the bank.
The modifications shown in Figures 7. 8 and 9, and alsowin Figures 10, 11 and 12 differ from those shown in Figure 2 and Figure 1 respectively, only in that. they are formed of single sections instead of three sections. The other details of the structure of these modifications are identical with those already given in connection with Figures l and 2. Y
lVhile there is shown and described specific embodiments of this invention, it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that certain changes may be made, and it is there fore to be understood that the invention is not limited by the herein disclosed details of construction which are used by way of illustration, but rather protection on all aspects of the invention as defined in the appended claims is secured. c
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A,,portab1e savings bank comprising means forming a pluralityot coin compartments including a single partition wall common to said compartments, unitary end members joined to said partition wall at the opposite ends thereof, each forming a transverse end wall of said plurality of compartments, side doors forming, in closed position, the side walls of said compartments and having inwardly'directed wall portions atright angles thereto along opposite edges 'tl'iereofiorming, when the doors are in closed position, longitudinal end'walls of said compartments, and means hingedly connecting said side doors to said'partition' w'all. i i h 2. A portable savings bank comprising means forming a plurality of coin compartments includinga single partition wall common to said compartments, unitary end memhaving coin admission slots, ribs cooperating with said partition walls and said side doors, when in closed position, to form denominational coin compartments, mean hingedly connecting said side doors to'said partition walls and means for locking said SlClG-ClOOlS in closed posltlon.
