UNITED STATES JULIUS RIMPLER, 0F HOBOKE'N, NEW JERSEY.
GARMENT.
Application filed March 29, 1926. Serial No. 98,078.
The present invention relates to garments, and relates more particularly to ladies garments of the type known as bloomers.
The object of the present invention is to provide a garment of this character in which all seams in the neighborhood of the crotch are eliminated, the crotch portion of the garment being woven in one piece with the front and back center portions and with the inside leg portions, thereby preventing discomfort to the wearer.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description, taken in conjunction with the accompanyin drawing which forms a part of this specification, and in which the single figure is as elevation of a garment constructed according to the present invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the garment 10 comprises a back center portion 11 and a front center portion 12, these portions being woven in one piece with the inside leg portions 13 and 14 respectively. All four of these portions meet at the common point '15 which is the crotch of the garment.
One method of weaving this piece of the garment is disclosed in my co-pending application, Serial; No. 98,079 filed concurrently herewith, and for the purposes of the present invention, any suitable or desired method of weaving this piece may be employed.
The method proposed in the application above referred to briefly consists in providin two independent sets of warp threads arranged in parallel planes, and weaving each set of warp threads with a separate shuttle to form the two portions 11 and 12 until the crotch 15 is reached. At this point the shuttie heretofore employed in weaving the top portion .12 is passed through half of the warp threads of the top set and then through half of the warp threads of the lower set lying immediately below the same, thus forming the half leg portion 13. The half portion leg 1a is similarly formed from the remaining warpthreads by using the shuttle employed in weaving the back portion 11. For a fuller disclosure of this method of weaving this portion of the garment, reference is made to my co-pending application referred to above.
Side portions 16 and 17 are joined to the center portions 11 and 12 along seams 18 and 19, and 20 and 21 respectively. These seams may be prolonged along the sides of the leg portions 13 and 14 to form the completed garment, or if desired, fancy or plain inserts 22 and 23 may be inserted between the side portions 16 and 17 and the adjacent inside leg portions. Inserts similar to the inserts 22 and 23 may be employed in the back of the garment also, if desired, and these insertspreferably do not extend as far as the waist band 24 but taper off somewhat short of this point as shown at 25, so that the garment will be somewhat fuller around the hips than around the'waist.
Cuffs 26 and 27 may be attached to the lower portions of the legs, and may be provided with suitable elastic-s, if desired.
A garment of this kind will be extremely comfortable to the wearer on account of the entire elimination of any seams in the nei hborhood of the crotch, which feature will also increase the durability of the garment.
It will be apparent that many alterations and modifications might bemade in the garment above described without affecting the spirit of my invention and I desire to be limited, therefore, only by the prior art and the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A garment having a back center portion extending from the waistband to the crotch, a front center portion similarly extending from the waistband to the crotch two half leg portions each integral with both of said center portions, all of said portions being formed by a single unitary piece of woven fabric, a relatively narrow strip of fabric secured to each edge of said leg portions and extending nearly to the waistbandof said garment, the upper end of each of said strips being tapered, and side port-ions secured to said strips and said front and back portions.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 22nd day of March, 1926.
JULIUS RIMPLER.
