Description
Juy 249 @28 H. B.' BRADFORD WATER TUBE FOR FURNACE WALLS germ .Patented July 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY R. BRADFORD, OEWILMINGTON, DEL-AWARE, AssIGNoR-'ro EDGE MooR I :RoN COMPANY, 0E EDGE MooR, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION oE DELAWARE.
WATER TUBE EoR EURNACEWALLS.
Application led October 19, 1926. Serial 170.142,75?.
Myl invention relates to furnace Walls of the type'in which a wall built up of refrac# tory blocks-and preferably havin-g itsouter portion built up of non-conduet1ng blocks or slabs, is provided with a series of Water pipes abuttedag'ainstthe inner'tace of the wall and tied into the Wall structure through which pipes water from a boiler or the like y is' circulated. As heretofore constructed 1t free from vliability to be broken off, bent or' displaced. t
nBroadly speaking my invention consists in securing t water pipes adapted to form in part the inner wall of a furnace a series of spaced threaded'nuts welded to the out' side of the pipes and adapted to receive threaded bolts extending therefrom through the Wall, andserving by means of Outer -.cla mps,and the water pipes to secure the blocks and slabs forming the wall together. My invention'will be best understood as described in 'conneetionwith the drawings forming 'part 'of the-specification and in which Figure 1 is a cross 4section of my furn'ace wall taken as on line l-,l of Fig. 2. Figure 2 is an elevationof the wall viewed from' the outsideA and having'parts broken away to'show its detached construction and .the Water pipe used in the wall'con'struction 'with threaded studs shownas screwing into 4the welded nuts.
A, A, etc. are refractory blocks built up from the inner-wall of the furnace,'the inner corners" of the blocks are notchedV as shown at A2 to form' seats for the water.'
shown with recesses B?. C, C, etc., and D, D, .are similar nonconducting slabs fitted against slabs B so as to break joint'stherewithA and with each other, recesses C1, D1' being provided to give passage to the studs. (l is an outer facingfor the wall.'
E, E,A etc., are Water pi es fitting against 'the inner face of the wal, as show n, and having a spaced' Vseries of threaded nuts Ev1 welded to them. F, F, etc. are vthreaded studs screwinginto nuts E1 and extending through the wall as shown.' G, G, arewashers surrounding the studs and fitting against the outer faces of blocks A against which they are clamped by nuts-III. I, I, are' clamping strips lying against the outer face of vthe Wall ,and clamped against it' `by nuts G1.
i In constructing my wall the inner wall is built up of blocks A. The water pipes E having nuts E1 welded to 'them .'so'. as to register with openings A1 and the threadedl studs F screwed into thel nuts are placed' against the inner face of the wall as shown with their studs extending through the openingsand then, preferably, Washers G are j. nuts E1 is of practical importance as it igure 3 1s a view showmg a sectlon of enables the pipes to be shipped without. risk of bending o r breaking attachment. thereto and to be used in the make up of the wal] by simply screwing studs into the nuts.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Water tubes for application to the inside of a furnace wall having a row of threaded nuts welded to them and adapted to receive clamping bolts.
